Meet Tally Bandz

We were lucky to catch up with Tally Bandz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tally , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I’ve always known I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. I’ve wanted to be a model since I was 4-years old. However, over the years that dream was molded into me wanting to not only be a model, but an artist and actress as well. I achieved great success in all three fields, but the most success I’ve achieved so far has been in music. I always loved performing, and longed to be a super mega star like Beyoncé or Rihanna. But being an artist was the last thing I ever thought my calling would actually be, however God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. I have been making music for about two years now, and have since dropped a mixtape, built up a great fan base and toured all over the world. I’m now gearing up to go on tour with my first big name artist in October.

When I decided to take music seriously  two years ago I had no idea I would end up here. Back then I was juggling all three fields – modeling, acting and music. I was having a hard time dedicating time to all of them, and feeling overwhelmed. I always believed in the scripture “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.” Yes, all things, but not all at once. I then asked God which profession I should pursue, and he said music. I asked a few more times as imposter syndrome kicked in and doubts and fears of how I would be able to accomplish this goal. At the time, I had no real support or connections. It felt impossible, I hadn’t even performed on a stage before. God has a funny way of making a way and a path for you if you just trust him. I did, and I took the first steps. I met a manager that helped me with artist development, and I had my first performance in Raleigh NC. It was all just a domino effect after that and now I’m known for having the best live performances in every city I’m booked in. People recognize me all the time. Even DJ’s at clubs. I had a Jamaican DJ that I didn’t even know shout me out at a club in my city. I was just there having fun with my friends, and he said “Tally Bandz, global superstar, she travels pon’ de world. ” My streams are also up and I have so many loving and adoring fans now. I’m even still acting and modeling as music has tied all my favorite professions into one. I have several well renowned magazine covers I’m published on dropping next month, and I wrapped up a film a few months ago that will premiere on Tubi. Even with all this confirmation that I’m on the right path, I still had doubts on if I was good enough or qualified to be an artist.

I recently had a few blocks, obstacles and hardships in my personal life happen, and it caused me to deepen my relationship with God. I’ve since learned that the only way to beat imposter syndrome is to believe in God’s promises to you and the dream he has put into your heart. Believe in yourself and believe in his plan to take you somewhere beyond your wildest dreams. When you stay faithful to him and keep your eyes on him, He will bless you with far more than you can ever imagine. He will give you double for your trouble. And even if you’re facing obstacles God said the gag is it’s all still going to work in your favor. “The setback is a setup for your success.” Instead of feeding into the lies that you’re not qualified or good enough, start speaking victory and power over yourself. Every morning I wake up now and I thank God for his favor on my life, and for providing for me, guiding me, fighting my battles and being my source. I wake up and say that I am a victor, I am an overcomer, I’m blessed, I was raised up for such a time as this. And even if you don’t see any signs of positive change, just keep praising Him and believing because that’s when the miracle happens. That’s when the unexpected blessings, opportunities and abundance show up. My advice is to just believe, bet on yourself, speak victory over your life and don’t listen to anything negative anyone has to say. Don’t worry about how it will happen, just know without an ounce of doubt that what you want is already DONE. It’s yours and you are qualified.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that were most important to me on my journey thus far have been consistency, perseverance and hard work. These helped me gain the success I have today. You need these three qualities because success doesn’t usually happen overnight, and if you want longevity in your field you need to play the long game. Most times you won’t see results at first, and that’s where consistency comes into play. Make the post, do that podcast, write that book. Your story needs to be heard and trust me the clients, fans or business partners will come. Also being knowledgeable in your field of business and learning all you can will help you stay motivated and ready for anything that may come your way. You will be presented with opportunities and obstacles, but with these three qualities you will be prepared. This will lead to your success

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book that has had the most impact on me and has completely changed my mindset to one of victory and success is called ‘The Power of your Subconscious Mind’ by Joseph Murphy. It taught me that your mind is like a program, and at anytime you can re-wire it and change your life. You can literally change your reality by focusing on and thinking positive thoughts and by keeping a close relationship with God. There are some things you can’t accomplish on your own you need the power of God behind you. God is the I am. So when you speak positive words over yourself repetitively, think positive thoughts, take inspired action and allow God’s grace to work on your behalf, you can accomplish the impossible. This book taught me that when you change your mindset, you change your life.
