We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ivi Hysaj a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ivi, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic derived from my father. Ever since I can remember he was always a hard worker, never gave up no matter what obstacles he faced. The biggest breakthrough was when he moved to America and sacrificed everything to provide his family for a better life. Seeing him go through that was really hard and that taught me to be so resilient and engraved in me to appreciate what we have and work even harder for what I want.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I own a roofing company, which I enjoy very much. This has been an ever growing struggle that I feel like I just need to get used to it because it will never go away. However the reward I get from it is something that pushes me every day to never give up. I love solving peoples’ problems and becoming a part of the community. Giving people a piece of mind when it comes to their property. I love managing my team and guiding them to every project that we go through. I learn so much from them and from my customers.
My second business is a car rental fleet that I have been trying to experiment with in the past two years. I manage a small fleet of cars that I rent out on a platform. On top of this I own a few rental homes that I manage. Real estate is something I am growing and have always had an interest in.
My passion is my other side business which I only do on weekends. I teach guitar and drums, which has been my getaway for so many years. Music is a way to connect and express my emotions and feelings in a way I could never explain.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Discipline, hard work, and personal fitness. These three areas helped me become a better human, husband and a better father. Make sure you stick to what you said you were going to do. That will take you very far on its own.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I would try to enjoy every moment of the time I have left. Make sure I traveled the world and spent time with my family!
