Meet Avery Mowder

We recently connected with Avery Mowder and have shared our conversation below.

Avery, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I have always been a very self driven person. I’ve known what I wanted and I’ve done my best to get there. I would say my mother Heather Schlickman would be where I get my work ethic from. Being a single mother having to raise her 2 daughters by herself taught me that it doesn’t matter what your going through, you can always get through it as long as you believe in yourself. I started working when I was Fifteen in a pizza place so I could start saving for my future and what I wanted to do. Here I am now at Twenty-one with two photos featured in Lybell Magazine and two articles written about me and my work. My work Ethic is driven by my dreams and aspirations for my self to be better everyday.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Cleveland Ohio portrait photographer who has an associates within Photography. I believe that photography is an amazing concept because the saying that “A photograph is worth a thousand words” is so beyond true. I am a hard believer in this and with every event that I am hired for, I bring this to a reality. I make timeless photos for families, weddings, graduation, and work events. I will give you the photos of your dreams. I will be just as excited to deliver your photos as you are to receive them.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I was always a very creative child, so when it came time to graduate and apply for collages, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career where I can use my creativity in a way to help others. While I know that being a photographer doesn’t require going to college I knew that I still wanted to go so I could advance my technical knowledge to better my photography skills. I 100% recommend this course of action because without that I wouldn’t know how to make a contract for even do the other side of running a business. Though the most impactful skill that I needed to learn was being able to deal with rejection because not everyone will want to work with me, which is okay and that other opportunities will come. Some advice that I would like to pass on to others is just never stop trying to make yourself better, always be honing in on your skills because that can only make you a better photographer.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

If I only had a decade to live, I would travel the world. Taking photos where ever and whenever I could. I’d love to spend time going to England, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, and anywhere with a beach. I’d hope that I would have enough clients to fill the whole year because at that point I would have my own studio as well. As far as in my personal life however, I would like to be married with a possible child as well.
