Meet Winnie The Jroo

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Winnie The Jroo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Winnie , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is built and forged in the fires of the resistance in my life that I’ve had to overcome. Both internal and external factors that I’ve been challenged with have given me a sense of good habits. These small daily habits that I have are the things that act as the “reps” that work out the “muscle of resilience”. I do hard uncomfortable things each and every day so that when the really tough things come I’m already in the habit of overcoming.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My biggest focus in life is the fulfillment of my definite purpose – which is to create a positive impact on the people I meet and spaces that I occupy. Fulfilling my purpose as a Dad. Fulfilling my purpose as a leader and a mentor, both in my shop at Olympus Tattoo, and also for my students of the Olympus Art Institute (my online mentorship program).

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Having a sense of definite purpose 2. Having the self awareness of who you are and why you’re here. An innate sense of gratitude. The ability to not only feel, but express gratitude for the totality of our lives.
3. The ability to be present. To be here and now. To not lose ourselves in anxiety of the future, or regret of the past. All things good or bad can only happen in the present moment. The ability to root ourselves in the here and now is one of the most important things we can do.

I would say to anyone at any point in their journey that one of the most important things we can do is not only discover our purpose and live to fulfill that, but to be grateful for the journey, all the good and bad that resides in it, and being completely present throughout that journey.

This is something that is a heavy focus in what I teach in the Olympus Art institute. You can find it in the bio of all of our socials, but also through this link: Stan.store/OlympusArtInstitute

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill

One of the best nuggets I’ve gotten from that book is not drifting away from what our purpose in life is. The importance of our environments and the association we have, and the value of our time and energy.
