Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brianna Morant. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brianna, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I grew up in the New Orleans area where rebuilding after hurricanes is a common occurrence. At 23, I left a job as the top server in a popular New Orleans restaurant to pursue a career in real estate with no savings to fall back on. Within one month of beginning that career, Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. It was the most economically devastating hurricane because two-thirds of the city was under water for over a month. That same year, not only did I lose my home and income, but I had several personal losses. Needless to say, life didn’t seem fair that year.
My husband and I were displaced to Nashville, and I took a job in a Keller Williams office as an administrative assistant. After working for two years with a steady paycheck, I decided to quit that job and activate my real estate license again in 2007. I joined a team as a buyer’s agent; and just as I was beginning to develop my skills, the worst real estate market crash happened in 2008. It’s been a tough but rewarding road to the success I now enjoy.
Over the past 18 years, I have built teams with upwards of over 200 transactions a year, stripping it down and rebuilding several times. I can only say my resilience came from overcoming life’s challenges with my 3 F’s (Faith, Family, & Focus) and an unwillingness to give up!!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Real estate has been in my blood since my parents were real estate investors. However, my passion is helping others. Becoming a licensed realtor was the perfect marriage between my passion to help people and my natural skill set.
Before I joined forces with my sister-in-law, Jenny Morant, I operated my real estate business like every other realtor, working with both buyers and sellers. I felt pulled in too many directions and couldn’t focus on what was truly best for my clients. I discovered that real estate is very personal. Buying and selling real estate are two distinctly different processes. No realtor can do both and represent their clients properly.
Jenny started with me as a lead generator; but it wasn’t long before we both knew she should be a full-time realtor. Once she got her license in 2013, we started Oak Street Real Estate Group. The chemistry between the two of us is what birthed our business. She runs the buyer’s side of the business which allows me to focus on getting the greatest value for our sellers’ homes. On our buy-sell deals, our clients work with us both so its a win-win for them! Our Oak Street brand is unique; in that, we have developed a specialized listing process and a separate specialized buying process so our clients achieve the best results when pursuing their personal real estate dreams and goals!!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The 4 most important skills required for success and sustainability. are:
Synergy
Specialization
Systems
Support
My best advice for real estate agents starting out is to find other professionals that provide a positive synergy for you, discover what you can do to specialize your role, develop your systems to promote the best client experience, and don’t be afraid to connect with others that can support you during your journey to success.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The answer for this question is easy. I’d have to say it was my parents. They had a strong faith in God and lived out their faith in our home every day and not just at church. Their Christian faith was true and not to impress others. My dad spoke positive words over me and made me believe I could accomplish anything. My mom prayed every day for us and would drop everything if I needed her. They were successful in business but will say their greatest success was in raising four healthy, happy, and kind adults. My siblings and I now have our own families. Our parents weren’t perfect, but we all attribute much of our success came from the way they loved and raised us.
