We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rainbow Mosho a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rainbow, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
What a great question! I had the greatest experience speaking at NFTNYC2023.
Yes, me a 15yr old artist and author on the autism spectrum was given the opportunity to share about Authentic Representation and Breaking Barriers.
I had some moments of fear and I took all that is good from that emotion. Why? Because being afraid of doing something so special for the first time reminded me I must forge on and deliver.
How did I deliver? I prepared.
How did I prepare? I considered my strengths and challenges. I remembered what are the meaningful messages I wanted to share with my audience.
Yes, no one in the room resembled me and this was a great opportunity to let others know how important it is that others like me get to share about their discoveries and dreams for the future.
I commanded the room. I made some people tear up. I made them laugh. I was thrilled for 10 minutes.
Some adults shared they have a hard time speaking in public yet I was able to do so at ease.
I was so relieved. I was reaffirmed I must continue to be myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Imagine living in a world where you cannot interact effectively and where you are considered irrelevant because you have a diagnosis or several of them. Yes, many times that is what I experience as a teen artist and author on the autism spectrum.
Yet, I learn everyday how to ignore that noise and focus on what is in front of me and what the future brings.
I am Rainbow Mosho and I have a plethora of diagnosis that few understand how I function and view the world.
These are important details to share because I move around life trying to understand why few people honestly try to get to know and accept me.
These circumstances help me push my boundaries as an artist and author and everything I create seeks some redemption and solution to life’s dilemmas.
I am so fortunate to have parents who are not prioritizing what can be difficult and emphasize what is wonderful about me.
Art is the source of many of the satisfactions I’ve experienced. Art is what allows me to find peace in my mind full of patterns, sounds and shapes. Art opens doors to interact with others who otherwise might not be interested to interact with me. Art allows me to learn that my future can have so many surprises. Art and WEB3 facilitate my interaction with like minded creators and I’ve found a variety of individuals and groups that welcome me — something not always experienced in school or other environments.
My art has incredible potential and I keep creating, practicing, discovering.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am still learning so many things. I have trouble staying focused — it was recommended to write lists (every day).
I love to talk about topics that not everyone relates to — I draw and write about them and turn them into books!
I can become obsessed with animals and natural disasters — I am learning to live for today and find ways to channel the recently acquired knowledge or manage my fears of doom.
I am a work in progress. My mom reminds me, we all are!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
