We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lily Rose. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lily below.
Hi Lily , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I must say, I have had to learn how to take time for myself to figure out how to be effective/successful as I walk through my path of life. I have learned everyone needs time to think about their dreams and the goals they want to achieve. It does help looking the way I do because I am very unique , personality and all!
I have conditioned myself to access my brainstorming skills, utilize my time management skills, and apply critical thinking to my thoughts to achieve my highest desires when it comes to what I do!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My Art is enhancing the physical beauty to meet the expectations of my clients.
I am a highly skilled Makeup Artist. I have two certifications and I am self taught as well! It really looks good on your behalf when you take advantage of a on going learning field of work like the beauty industry. That’s one thing I love about what I do . I can always learn so much more as well as perfect the way I do it individually I use top of the line products on my clients at an reasonable cost. Special discounts and beauty tips are listed in my monthly newsletter that I started this last year!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My best advice for anyone who wants to join in on the beauty of the Beauty Industry is to stay true to yourself! There will be times you look to another’s work and question your own. There will be times you’re burnt out . There will be times you just can’t seem to get it right . Aside all that you will get it right and you will find your niche ! You will find the true beauty in what you do because it is authentically you!!
The three qualities of my self that helped me remain true to this would be
My drive, my individuality, & my versatility.
I have always had this mentality to find positivity when it comes to a hard situation , you have to be able to tell yourself you will get through a hard struggle and it is small compared to what milestone you’ll hit for yourself. I , myself have made a impact on my journey because I change so much but remain me through it all. I try to make every single person who steps into my room feel 100% like them even with a full beat. I want you to feel like we have known each other years , so you don’t have to feel weird while being serviced. My personality will open doors for us both at the end of the day & you’ll come back just to see me ! The versatility I bring to the game sets me apart . It keeps me thriving because I can do anything I put my mind to it! There is a Makeup Artist for everyone and I strive to show I can do it all! I love being able to flip a switch from a Creative full Glitz beat to a soft sultry look . When people say I do too much , I feel I haven’t done enough . I keep myself going and my wonderful clients who acknowledge my work. They keep me loving what I do!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed is a obstacle of the mind. You have to find your own way and know that today it can be bad but, if I keep at it in a weeks time or even a few days I will be able to say “ I did that!” Because I hadn’t gave up . You have to train your mind to not take yourself so critically but, as well as pushing yourself to do it until it’s done the way you want it to be.
Makeup artistry is a world where you can be freely you . There is no “right” way to do makeup. It’s all art and it is all fun!
When you take the fun out of it , what’s the point in doing it?
