We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Preston Douglas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Preston , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I’ve learned to deal with imposter syndrome by adopting an ‘I do it anyway’ mindset. There are still moments where I question if I’m ready or qualified, but instead of waiting for that feeling to go away, I show up and do the work anyway. Over time, that consistency has built real confidence and experience.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the co-owner of Bigfoot Pet Mobile Grooming, where we bring high-quality grooming directly to people’s homes across the DFW area. What started as just a business has really turned into something bigger—it’s about serving people, building relationships, and taking care of their pets in a way that’s convenient, personal, and stress-free.
What makes it special to me is the impact we get to have day-to-day. We’re not just grooming dogs—we’re helping owners who are busy, elderly, or just want a better experience for their pets. There’s something really rewarding about taking a dog that comes in nervous or matted and sending them home clean, comfortable, and happy.
My path into this wasn’t traditional. I didn’t grow up planning to be a groomer or business owner, and there have been plenty of moments where I’ve questioned if I’m qualified or doing things “the right way.” But I’ve learned to operate with an “I do it anyway” mindset. Instead of waiting until I feel ready or confident, I show up, do the work, and keep improving. That approach has been huge for both my personal growth and the growth of the business.
Right now, we’re focused on continuing to grow our client base, expand our reach, and build more of a community around what we do—both locally and through content online. We’re also working on putting together events like our “Mr. Bigfoot” competition, which is a fun way to bring people (and their dogs) together while building something unique around the brand.
At the end of the day, we’re just getting started, and I’m excited about where it’s going.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most important things for me have been consistency, adaptability, and what I’d call an “I do it anyway” mindset.
First, consistency. Whether it’s showing up for clients, posting content, or working on the business, just being consistent over time has made the biggest difference. You don’t always see results right away, but it compounds.
Second, adaptability. This wasn’t a straight path for me, and things don’t always go as planned—whether it’s dealing with different dogs, growing a business, or trying new ways to reach people. Being willing to adjust, learn, and pivot has been huge.
Third, the biggest one is that “I do it anyway” mindset. There have been plenty of moments where I didn’t feel ready, qualified, or confident—but I’ve learned not to wait on that feeling. I take action anyway, and that’s where growth actually happens.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice would be: don’t wait until you feel ready—you probably won’t. Start where you are, stay consistent, and be willing to learn as you go. Confidence comes after you’ve put in the reps, not before.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, we’re always open to partnerships and collaborations. We love connecting with other local businesses, pet-related services, and community organizations that share a similar mindset of serving people well and building something meaningful.
Some of the best fits for us are veterinarians, pet stores, trainers, boarding facilities, and even non-pet businesses that want to create something fun and engaging for their customers—whether that’s events, cross-promotions, or referral partnerships. We’ve also been leaning into more community-driven ideas, like events and fundraisers, so we’re always open to collaborating in those areas as well.
At the end of the day, we’re looking to work with people who are genuine, growth-minded, and care about their customers.
If anyone is interested in collaborating, the best way to reach us is through our website at www.bigfootpet.com, or by connecting with us on social media through Bigfoot Pet Mobile Grooming. We’re always open to a conversation and seeing what we can build together.
