Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Madilla Parrish. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Madilla, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
By being true to who I am and confident in what I bring to the room
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a dedicated and professional hairstylist that specializes in Locs and Braids. I own and operate a salon called “Medallion Styles” I have been operating my business for 4 years (in the city of Hinesville Ga) but hair has always been my passion since I was a little girl.
For the love of hair is why I created my very own hair care oil which is called “ForTheLoveOfHair” it’s actually my clients favorite.
It promotes growth and helps with Alopecia as well
My focus is to promote healthy hair
So not only will I style your hair But I want to be sure your hair gets the proper care before styling it
“ITS ALL FOR THE LOVE OF HAIR”
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
-Understanding -with dealing with people you have to know everyone is not the same, deal with them accordingly
-Customer Service -Treating folk how you will want to be treated
-Continue to learn throughout our journey -Never stop getting knowledge about the business you are running
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Take a mental break to breath or meditate then I’d write down what’s making me overwhelmed and prioritize it I’d have to remind myself I’m not superwoman
So I have to have time management to do things accordingly so that I will not be overwhelmed
