We were lucky to catch up with Ignacio (aka: cacho tattoo) Suarez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ignacio (aka: cacho tattoo), so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose after realizing that tattoos can be more that only just nice design on someone’s body. It can also be a positive reminder for someone’s life, it can help bring peace while going through a hard moment, it helps to carry an important element in your life with you wherever you go. Tattoos can be such an important element on peoples life that I take my work as an honor to be able to do this for someone that is putting their trust on my hands,
Creating and materializing this bond is something I always wanted to do with my art, and I found it by being a tattoo artist.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Ignacio Suarez (aka Cacho), born and raised in Mexico City but Based in Los Angeles, and I specialized in single needle and fine line tattoos.
I’ve been Passionate about drawing since childhood, my artistic journey took me through various forms of art, from oil painting to digital art and animation. However, it was tattooing that captured my heart once I learned the craft and seeing the profound impact it can have on people’s lives. I’ve realized that tattoos were more than just drawings on the body; they held significant meaning and emotional value for many individuals.
Since I started my journey in the tattoo industry I’ve been focused on mastering the style of single needle, I’ve become a specialist and that has helped me to offer better work each day, because I’m fully focused on one single style and it’s complexity, focused on the longevity of it and how my work will stay on top of all the rest.
Although I’m deeply committed to tattooing, I’m not limited to one form of expression. As an artist and a creative soul, I love yo explore various avenues, including architecture, photography, animation, illustration, and clothing design. I believe that embracing other art forms can always have a positive impact in my skills and artistic identity, enriching my craft as a tattoo artist.
Every day I feel honored that my clients trust me to create permanent art on their skin, knowing the profound significance it holds for them. With each piece I create and each client I works with, I continue to grow as both an artist and a person.
My philosophy is simple but profound: follow your true passions and do what brings you genuine happiness by always being kind and committed.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I would say that three important qualities or skills that have helped me throughout My career is first to be fully committed into anything that I want to do. My parents since I was very young they taught me that no matter what I wanted to pursue as a career or what I would like to be working on, they would support it, no matter what, as long as I would give it my all, as long as I would be fully committed to be the best I could be, and that’s something that sticked with me throughout all these years because I believe that no matter what you want to be doing if you put your entire focus, your entire passion, your entire effort, it will pay back. Second, I would say that, since I was very young, I always been really hard on myself on being perfectionist in someway, I don’t know if that would be considered a skill or not but I feel that having that tough judge in my head, helps me a lot to be a good tattoo artist because that really pushes me to always do better, as a tattoo artist you cannot let yourself have mistakes, you’re creating stokes on someone’s skin that will last forever, and you don’t have an eraser to go back, so you really need to be as perfect as you can be, so I try to always be learning after each Tattoo that I do throughout the day, there’s always something new to learn out of each one, and I try to do better than the one before.
And third, but not least, I would say respect, that’s a quality or skill that sadly I don’t come across very often and it’s about being respectful with my clients time, punctuality, respectful with the work I do, respectful with the way I talk and treat my clients, respectful of my work, to be respectful to every aspect that surrounds me that can or will impact the people that would come to me, and I found this extremely important to have an apply in my daily routine.
And the advise that I would give to someone that reads this, is trust in the process nothing that is worth it comes easy, there’s definitely days that are harder than others. There are going to be ups and downs, but as long as you keep your head in the game, as long as you keep giving your all, as long as you’re committed, as long as you have a strong work ethic, it’s gonna pay back.
I believe that success comes always in the time when opportunity meets preparation, if you keep yourself ready and sharp, being the best on what you do, when the opportunity knocks on your door, you will be able to conquer it and success will come right after.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My family. I believe that having a strong family core always helps to overcome any type of challenge that life can bring to you.
My family has helped me to acquire the knowledge skills and qualities I’ve always needed, by always supporting me, by always believing in me, and by always having my back, no matter where or when I put myself into, I’ve always known that I can count with my family support. Having that is like wearing a shield that truly makes you feel that there’s nothing that can bring you down, that someone out there already believes in you, that you have nothing to prove to anyone else other than to yourself and that has always been helpful for me.
