We recently connected with Shinika and Brittany and have shared our conversation below.

Shinika & Brittany, it’s so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

“I’m one of one, Im #1, I’m the only” Beyonce We had to go there first! But it wasn’t always that level of confidence when we started and even to this day Imposter syndrome likes to pop up but now we know how to shut her down quickly.

According to Webster: Imposter syndrome is the condition of feeling anxious and not experiencing success internally, despite being high-performing in external, objective ways. This condition often results in people feeling like “a fraud” or “a phony” and doubting their abilities.

It’s knowing that you are GREAT but still doubting if you are due to fear insecurities or even being found out that that is your truth.

We remember a time when we were solely focused on brand awareness and have been going hard for 4 months straight, and not seeing the results we thought we should. We started comparing ourselves to others and that’s when Imposter syndrome kicked in for us. Doubting our ability to help others, thinking “Why are they getting these opportunities” when we are equally brilliant. “What do they have that we don’t” And maybe “We aren’t as great as we thought”

Have you ever doubted yourself? Even when you have seen your greatness in front of you?

That’s when the fear kicked in and it showed up in our business, our ability to show up for the women who we have helped, how we promoted ourselves, and how we showed up as a team. Fear showed up first we were second.

It wasn’t until we heard that song by Pastor Mike – BIG that came on randomly that reminded us of our greatness
We had to remind ourselves of our greatness, by reading the receipts. Every testimonial and every compliment we have received. Every business we helped grow

It helped us to know that we are those girls changing lives, and as we are moving into the next season of our business we will continue to prepare for the greatness that’s waiting on us. Imposter syndrome has no room here.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Great Question! Looking back we would say, Being coachable, Forgiveness & Alignment, and money mindset would be the 3, and of course in no particular order. With the help of therapy, coaches and actually doing the work we were able to improve and go further faster.

Being coachable- We don’t know everything, and that’s perfectly okay, learning how to invest in what we didn’t know was a game changer for us. Being able to know what we were doing wasn’t working and making changes even if they were uncomfortable or at the time we didn’t want to (lol) but trusting that if we did the work in the right mindset it will work out. Secondly not being afraid of the investment.

Forgiveness & Alignment, – This is the one people back away from, This is different because we are a team and if we are not on the same page it impacts our results or it is the results we see. Learning when we don’t forgive ourselves or others it delays our desires and for us, if we are not both doing the work, the inner work, it not only impacts us individually but as a team.

Money Mindset- Look “If your life is messy you ain’t making no money” Money Making Shi and that simply means if you are undercharging, not forgiving, constantly comparing yourself, out of alignment, if you think you’re a fraud or a 1 hit wonder, your life is messy and it’s those things that have us stuck and never having the more we desire. You have to constantly work on your money mindset I mean how many of us heard “you got to work hard for money” or “money doesn’t grow on trees” or “Hustle and grind your way to it” All those things we have to unlearn in order to experience more of it. At the end of the day, money is just energy it’s all around us.
