We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anwar Kasha a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Anwar , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Truth be told, you fake it until you make it. Now take that with a grain of salt because I am not anywhere near where I’d like to be. But right now, im better than where I was last year. I built my confidence and self-esteem by believing in my own work rather than comparing it to others. For a while I would compare myself to people who’ve been doing what I do for 5 to 10 years plus and I needed to take a step back and understand that it’s okay not to be amazing on your first try. You’re never gonna be perfect at something on your first try, over the course of you trying and building your confidence and self-esteem you’ll realize that you’re only in competition with yourself not the people around you.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
This is AK Artistry. My name is Anwar Kasha, I am a 21 year old stylist in Utica, Michigan as well as Troy, Michigan. About a year ago I opened my own studio, AK Artistry, after working in a salon for a few years. I am also now in a spa called Face Candy in Troy as well! Since then I’ve been building my brand into what it is today. I’m known on instagram for my hair tips & tricks, and my extension transformations. I am a brunette specialist, and also an extension specialist. I’ve been working with extensions since i had gotten my cosmetology license and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’ve always struggled with fine hair personally and i found extensions be a boost in my confidence level so i wanted to reciprocate that onto my clients. I’ve practiced & perfected my skills to the best of my abilities to make my clients happy with their services. I have also recently been teaching classes on basic prep and style for everyday looks. I put everything & anything i can into my business, and I don’t believe i will ever stop!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ve mentioned this before and I’m gonna bring it up again. First, don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone grows at different times everyone develops different skills at different times you were in your own lane stay in it. Second, Any type of course or schooling you’re going to take is only going to give you so much knowledge and prep, what you do outside of that will determine how bad you want some thing. If you want to be the greatest in whatever it is you’re doing branch out and learn everything you possibly can to be the greatest. Lastly , If you don’t fall you’ll never have the opportunity to grow. it is part of the learning process, it is important to fail to know your wrongdoing to not make that mistake again.
