We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sue Lee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sue below.
Hi Sue , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Most definitely my parents! They use to own a restaurant in Baltimore City and worked 16+ hour days. I basically grew up there and watched how hard they worked and how much they sacrficed to make my life better. Their motto was to always work hard, save and don’t spend within your means. I hold onto those lessons and values today.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Besides working full time as Program Manager, I am also a mom and a wife. On the side, I love to share my passion of food, restaurants to visit, food brands and drinks, as well as recipes! Becoming a food blogger ignites my creativity and this became my hobby and side business. It’s been such a fun journey and I can’t wait to share more with my followers! I also have a podcast coming soon so be sure to check in for that.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
You have to be committed, reliable and authentic. You must be consistent with your posting on Instagram and don’t get discouraged if, let’s say, one of your reels or post did not do well. That’s the best advice I can give for anyone who starts out on Instagram, do not give up easily. It takes alot of hours and sometimes days to perfect a reel or post and you have be self motivated to make it work. Sometimes your post will take off, and sometimes it won’t, but I never focus on that. I alway focus on the positive such as the number of people who actually follows me, liking, saving and commenting on my post means I am doing something right. Every once in awhile, I will get DMs from followers telling me how much they love my Instagram and that truly means the world to me. Or when I receive emails from brands, giving me praises on how much they enjoy watching my reels and that they want to collaborate with me. That is what keeps me going.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would say all of my past mentors, such as my old managers at work. They truly shaped me into who I am today, all of their encouragement and leadership. The skills they passed on to me whether if its time management, communication, problem solving, decision-making, adaptability and the list goes on. These skills were passed on to me as a Program Manager and I can utilize those skills now to become a successful food blogger.
