We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amira Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amira, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
At the age of twenty-two I lost my mother to metastatic breast cancer. The process of trying to understand death and ascension led me to exploring and doing a deeper dive into spirituality. Through learning various spiritual practices such as meditating, mindfulness and learning the laws of the universe, such as the Law of Divine Oneness and the Law of Vibration, I started to understand that everything in life is connected and recognized that we as individuals create the meaning for every day that we live.
Through this realization I began to understand that purpose isn’t one specific thing or one way of being. Purpose exists in every moment. For instance, my morning routine includes taking my dog outside for a walk and that walk has a purpose. Or when communicating with a friend or family member, simply listening to what their needs are is my purpose in that moment.
Therefore, as a collective we can begin to explore purpose through the lens of how we are creating our daily lives and experiences moment by moment and identifying how those moments we create are purposeful.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own a solo private therapy practice, Rho’s Garden Counseling, where I focus on perinatal and overall women’s mental health. I believe that women deserve a safe space to process their human experiences and feel seen, heard and validated.
One of the most exciting aspects of the clinical work I do is helping women remember who they are and feel empowered. The process of coming back to self and feeling connected to oneself mind, body and spirit is exhilarating.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Rather than stating qualities or skills I’d like to say this.
I believe that one of the most important things people should do, no matter the job title one may hold or their various roles in life (ex. Mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, etc.,) is to hold space for their desires daily.
Holding space for desires means being an active and intentional creator of their human experience. Recognize that the creator (God, spirit, universe, etc.) gave us the free-will to be creative. Therefore, use that free-will to be an active participant in your life experience. Recognize if you are living on autopilot and simply existing, or if you are truly living.
This will then help one make decisions in their life that feel purposeful, they’ll feel connected to themselves, and this may positively impact others.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is women who desire to reconnect to themselves mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Those who want to go beyond the surface and delve deeper into their experiences within a safe space.
