We recently connected with Jenna Morris and have shared our conversation below.
Jenna, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my passion for digital design when I started a skin care line and started making my labels and social media post. I had more fun creating labels and social media content than making the actual products. From there I started making label templates to birthday invites and menus and then all things wedding selling them on Etsy. Friends started asking for logos and I found my love for making logos. I find so much joy in making logos. Its the most fun thing for me. I have grown from there to social media post/management and branding. Creating aesthetically pleasing content brings so much joy and satisfaction. Its truly my passion, that’s how I know its my purpose.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
131 STUDIO is a small black women owned business. I am focused on learning more and growing my business into a respected creative design brand. 131 STUDIO is still a new baby. Being creative is my passion. I want to focus more on branding and helping small businesses find their voice and grow their business. Branding is so much more than just a logo. Brand identity is about your brand voice, brand strategy and brand design. 131 STUDIO is a small business that will give special attention to each project carefully crafting a brand tailored to the target audience. I find so much joy in crafting brands helping them meet or surpass their goals. My favorite design style is minimalist, because less is always more, but bold and fancy is always fun and interesting. I like to push my limits to grow and learn.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am still early in my journey as 131 STUDIO is a new baby, but the the things that have been most impactful on this journey have been, learning new strategies and practicing to help clients stand out amongst their competition and word of mouth.
Word of mouth has been my biggest friend on this journey. I’m so thankful for the people who admire my work and trust me enough to not only use my service but to also recommend my service to others.
Practicing and learning new design strategies is so fun for me and also a great tool to help grow the business because it helps me make my clients stand out against their competitors. I get lost in adobe for hours trying new things and learning new things. There is always a new technique to try. This is such a creative field, there is so much you can do, endless possibilities. I think that’s why I love it so much, there are no limits to the creativity. You can continue to learn and push your limits.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I always talk about the Complete Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn. I love this book. Its short but it is packed with so much meaningful insight. It’s a book you can read over and over and gain something new each time. One of the most powerful nuggets I carry with me from this book is “through his spoken word, man is constantly making new laws for himself” So instead of saying Im sick, say Im healing. Always speak healing, hopeful, positive words over yourself because words do have power and the universe is always listening. Another one I carry with me is “never violate a hunch” The hunch was divinely put there for a reason, never ignore it. I got my favorite affirmation I actually got from this book, and it is “I am an irresistible magnet for all that belongs to me by divine right” My copy of this book is all marked up with notes and highlights. I just love this book. I recommend it to everyone. It will change your perspective on life in a positive way. Thank me later 🙂
