Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to RoseMarie Lewis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
RoseMarie, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by trying new things with crochet and exploring new fashion and crochet trends.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hey!! I’m RoseMarie Lewis, Owner of Yubehandmade and Yube Yarn Collection. I’m a Fiber Artist/Crochet Fashion Designer, wife, and mother of six. My line is full of Sexy Eye catching Swim and resort wear.
Pulling from my nearly 24 years of design experience as a freehand crochet designer, I’ve been featured in ELLE Magazine, Fashion Style weekly and many more.
In 2022, I presented Yubehandmade during Miami Swim Week and invited to Paris Fashion Week as one of the Designers to watch.
In June, I was a featured designers during Michigan Fashion Week and Miami Swim Week in July 2023. Yubehandmade as a highly acclaimed brand that upholds its status in the crochet community. Some looks are sexy and form fitting, as well as slightly loose with a comfortable fit. It would be a great idea to wear Yubehandmade to the pool. We add a fun splash to your summer wardrobe that can be enjoyed for years to come.
My winter collection is almost complete and I’ll be showing soon.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the area of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey was staying consistent with my work. Not letting anyone tell me what I should create. I’m open for suggestions, but you have to believe in what you do. You have to care about what you’re creating. If I would’ve let them tell me that “crochet swimwear isn’t possible” or “that I can’t make crochet clothing in any form” I wouldn’t be a crochet designer today. So the advice I have is, always believe in yourself. Practice what you do, I still practice everyday.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone looking to upgrade their wardrobe. Someone going on vacation or a model looking to add something spicy to her portfolio. This is all handmade so someone who isn’t afraid to spend money lol.
