We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sophia Sensano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sophia, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self-discipline comes from the root. Understanding that everything I do if for the outcome of a better future.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was born in Houston, TX, raised in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I am a Texas A&M University graduate. After completing a 12 month apprenticeship, I am now Junior Stylist with Emily Elliott Style.
I love to travel and I draw inspiration from the fashion and design with experiences around the world. I have a passion for styling which was enhanced by extensive coursework at Parsons The New School NYC during my college summers.
I enjoy connecting with people to understand their needs to make them feel and look stunning. My mission is to help her clients develop a style and design that translates to a wardrobe that is authentic and accessible to them and their lifestyle. I am always exploring new looks and helping others to develop their personal style.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Keeping an open mind to learning new things is one quality that has been very impactful in my journey, you learn something new every day. Able to help others with a positive mindset is a skill that has been very impactful as well. Everything happens for a reason, being open to the opportunities that came/come my way and understanding that they are coming for a reason. To better myself and my career.
My advice to those that are early in their journey would be, keep going I promise it gets better.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Most impactful thing my parents have done for me is definitely teach be the good and the bad. Understanding how to overcome the bad and being thankful for the good.
