Devotera, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

When I am the only woman in a room, I stay effective and successful by being myself! Life lessons and successes have taught me to be genuine, my authentic self, and value my work ethic, content, and worth.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For the past two years, the overall goal for 2 Left Feet has been focusing on elevating oneself, family, friends, and the environment, uplifting the community, and creating or helping with positive change through the beautiful world of the arts. We are passionate about helping communities that have obstacles in obtaining professional performing arts and art education because of financial causes, so for the past year we’ve partnered with the City of Phoenix and placed talented, highly trained, diversified, and professional instructors in communities to assist with affordable and professional education for the public in four Phoenix locations. We have plans on expanding to more locations within the City of Phoenix and other communities throughout the United States. We believe that quality education shouldn’t be unreachable because of economic reasons!
We’ve received some exciting news to share, 2 Left Feet is ranked #1 for Best Dance Classes in Tempe, AZ. As quoted from Klaus Schneider, General Manager from distinguishedteaching.com “We scored 250 Maricopa County Dance Training studios across a variety of salient criteria, and 2 Left Feet has been recognized as the Top Dance Studio in Tempe. We want to reward your outstanding success and commitment to excellence…”
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three areas that were impactful and helped me stay focused early on my journey.
1) Write or document your reason for starting. It’s going to be helpful when you have obstacles, get overwhelmed, or any reason that causes you to want to stop. You can look back at why you started, and it may help you stay motivated on the voyage.
2) It’s okay to readjust your plans. Life doesn’t always happen according to plan, so do not get discouraged… adjust and keep going.
3) Permit yourself to have time to think. You do not always have to continue to keep going and going in times when you’ve reached your limit. Take time to improve your emotional, mental, and physical well-being; self-care will reflect within your overall journey.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
2 Left Feet is expanding so we would love to collaborate and partner with musicians, dancers, performers, artists who paint and draw, or any field of artists.
Secondly, What the company looks for in a partnership is to be able to create a better system for the kids and individuals who perhaps want to make a name for themselves in the dancing world. When collaborating with musicians, dancers, etc. who may know famous or experienced entertainers in the industry, we can send individuals who are experienced enough to assist with projects and provide careers or more opportunities for the future.
Thirdly, we are looking to hire talented artists, coaches, and instructors who have a passion for teaching. Our goal is to provide affordable and professional education to those who have financial obstacles while providing jobs for artists.
