Meet Miss Brawling Beauty

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miss Brawling Beauty . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Miss Brawling Beauty , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I get it from my Dad. My dad K.C. was a clown. Growing up I watched him donate his time to hundreds of childrens charities over his 30 yrs in the circus arts. He always reminded me that we should do what we can, when we can. He held 2 Guinness Book of World Records for balloons and 1 Mormon World Record (yes, there is such a thing). When I was in about 5th grade he started teaching me how to twist balloons. I’d sometimes go help assist him at events, like when he would donate his time at The West Jordan Care Center which is a center for children with disabilities. Helping my dad was a beautiful way to learn how to give back to my community.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have been an advocate of the burlesque community in and out of my home state of Utah for over two decades. I recently moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to continue my beautiful journey as a performer here in sin city.
My tireless efforts on not only inclusion, but friendship, support, collaboration and providing opportunities to the underprivileged are just some of my contributions to a community undergoing immense growth over the past few years.

My constant dedication to the art has helped me to become a pillar of the burlesque community around the world. Many performers in and out of my home state look to me for mentorship, advice and help when producing or performing as I am often called the “Mother of Utah Burlesque” in the Utah performance art circles.
My dedication to teaching this art has allowed many performers to flourish under my encouragement. I am constantly encouraging everyone to spread thier wings, fly and have confidence in themselves as they pursue careers in burlesque both in the U.S. and abroad. Anyone under my care is bound to feel both supported and seen without question and my spirit is never lost on anyone who seeks my help.
I am Producing Utahs very first Burlesque Festival this year. The Salty Desert Burlesque Festival is a celebration of performing arts. This event will take place at ‘The Upper Level Bar’ at Club 90 in Sandy, Utah on August 25th-27th, and will highlight talent local to the area, while featuring guest performers from across the entertainment industry. Our mission is to produce an event that brings diversity to the forefront in the performing arts community that is unique to Utah, while welcoming performers from all over to the Beehive State. Our goal is to shine a spotlight on burlesque, drag, cabaret, dance, and all other forms of the performing arts in our city. This event will be powered by the local community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Passion, consistency and education are the 3 areas of knowledge that has been most impactful in my journey as an Entertainer? I believe passion can’t be taught but if we are consistent enough that will help push you through anything. However educating yourself in the art you are passionate about is extremely important. We need to teach the next generation about the history of what we do.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Burlesque In a Nutshell – Girls, Gimmicks & Gags Book by Dusty Sage is incredible. This book peeks behind the Minsky’s marquees into the personal and effervescent lives of the stars of Burlesque. It tells intimate stories of strippers and comics, and their friendships, confidences, heartbreaks, laughter, and strange quirks.
Dusty Sage is not only an incredible writer she is a Burlesque Hall of Fame Legend and my friend. You can learn a lot from our Burlesque Legends. Some of the best times in my life have been spent with Legends like Dee Milo, Tiffany Carter, Tempest Storm and Toni Elling just to name a few. If you have a chance to chat with one of our Burlesque Hall of Fame Legends, DO IT.
