We were lucky to catch up with Ariana Kaufman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ariana, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
There is a gnawing feeling in my heart that I often cannot tame. It tells me loudly to go a little longer. Even when my body feels it could not manage one more step, this feeling screams that it could be better with one more foot propelled forward. This feeling is so loud and pervasive that I do not have the option of ever quitting. Maybe it’s naive of me to think that my wildest dreams could come true, but that feeling keeps just enough faith and resilience for me to go on,
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The greatest part about acting is so much of it is observing oneself and the world around. Oftentimes just going through a daily routine and really connecting with the objects in front of me is exhilarating. Peeling an orange. What does the orange feel like? What does it taste like? Does it sound like anything?
Someone walked in front of me, can I copy their walk? Where in their body are they moving their limbs? What mood does this walk have? Are they meeting someone? Did they fight earlier?
This is acting to me. It’s less about being on set and more about finding the simplest things in life full of stories and passion. Because once you do get a role to prepare for you have so much to bring this character to life from your observations and experiences.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The best advice I ever received was: Always have something else. Don’t only have acting, but a second something you are excited about.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love to collaborate on films and photos with fellow weirdos. If you are fellow oddball you can find me on Instagram at Ariana_Kaufman_
