Meet Chad Gerber

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chad Gerber. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chad below.

Hi Chad , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I think that someone’s ability to take a risk is directly related to their passion and drive to achieve a certain outcome. As a kid, I discovered early on that music was my passion and exactly what I needed to do with my life. Music was what kept me balanced, happy, mentally sound, and made others happy, so I decided that there could be no other outcome than to become a musician no matter the cost. Once I came to that decision in my mind, I didn’t see many things as risks but rather as ‘complicated steps’ that needed to be taken in order to reach where I needed to be. I also knew that pursuing my dream wasn’t the risk; giving up on my dream would be the ultimate risk.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Chad Gerber, a musician, inventor, and the founder of Meloscene. My path to becoming a platinum-selling artist has taken an unconventional route, with the merging of technology invention and the establishment of a music tech company forming a lifelong blend of personal passions. Over time, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with labels such as Warner, Sony, Universal Music, Armada, etc. I’ve also had the privilege of working alongside some truly remarkable artists across the United States, Europe, and South America. Additionally, I’ve ventured into composing music for both film and television, and of course, my favorite alter ego in the underground electronic scene, Woodrowgerber.

In the past couple of years, I’ve embarked on a journey of fusing my music with technology I’ve developed. This technology enables artists to dive into virtual studios through VR, facilitating collaborative music creation regardless of our geographical locations. Balancing music, technology invention, launching Meloscene, and witnessing the transformation of it all into a new form of creative identity has been quite a ride. As an artist, the journey has been incredibly rewarding, even though it meant sacrificing numerous hours of sleep, which has led to some humorously sleep-deprived moments!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on the journey, three things stand out. First, unbreakable resolve — develop relentless determination that propels you even when the world is against you.

Second, quick people-reading skills. Swiftly grasping motivations and intentions of strangers and even those close to you can be a game-changer. I’ve lost count how many times people close to me were wishing for my failure and I was oblivious.

Lastly, the power of your crew. Choose friends on the same level of grind. They will offer valuable advice from their experiences.

For newcomers on this insane path, I’d say remember these: become unwavering determination, master quick people reading skills, and surround yourself with supportive goal oriented friends. These have been my anchors along with a whole other secret stash of tools I use.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
If everything is going up in flames and deep breathing isn’t cutting it, I revert back to square one by either listening to music or creating it. Another technique I’ve picked up is preparing for those inevitably overwhelming days with a consistent exercise routine. To start my day, I engage in a workout that provides neurological balance, triggering neurogenesis. Consequently, this unlocks my creative problem-solving flow and stabilizes my chemical equilibrium, enabling me to logically manage stress. Achieving balance is crucial long before the overwhelming situations strike; otherwise, I find myself curling into a ball in the bathtub.
