Meet Carl Blust

We were lucky to catch up with Carl Blust recently and have shared our conversation below.

Carl, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I picked this question because it was difficult to answer but, I would have to say HATERS!! Criticism, when someone hates on you, doesn’t like you, has nothing good to say to you or about you? When they don’t even know you they just judge you by your music what you say if it’s not what they like they criticize you. To me that’s inspiration… I used to take it negatively but over the years and growing up and just know how people are how rude, arrogant and inconsiderate others are about someone trying to do something great or be different? That’s what keeps me going and make me have the confidence in writing my next track or next song, and I take what those say and put it into words on my songs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a musician/rapper/songwriter/creator I go by the stage name ANONYMOUS. My music is on all platforms, my two albums are NASA Headquarters and Timeless. I also have multiple music videos and live performance videos on YouTube as well. I started off 10 years ago writing and starting to take music seriously, I expected with being good and having dope rhymes someone would discover me. But at the time I didn’t know how literary impossible that was. See in todays day and age when it comes to music it doesn’t matter if you’re good?! If you don’t have the fans, fan base, music catalog, or anything a music label doesn’t like? Well you’re kind of out of luck. They expect you to have a fan base, they expect you to put thousands of dollars into your music and craft before they consider you. So I guess what I’m mainly focused on right now is strictly promoting some songs and or videos to get a fan base going and to gain some revenue off of streams/downloads. Knowing the business side of music is a huge deal. And will help you 100% in the long run.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
If you’re just starting it don’t know much about what you’re doing!? Just know that you’ll hear more negative than positive feedback/comments and that’s just fact. This is a cruel world we live in and people can be very hateful. Just keep pushing, don’t let others dictate how you live or what goals you set out and want to achieve. It’s all on you not the comments or hatred of others. Also, learn any business aspect of anything you’re trying to do especially if it involves you making money. You always wanna make sure you’re getting paid correctly and not getting taken advantage of. And the last thing, just because you have skill? Unfortunately that doesn’t mean anything today so bring something else to the table or learn how to do something to where you don’t need a labels help and you can collect that revenue for your own services just by learning and knowing how to. Saved you money, gains you money.!

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Learning how to promote my music and target those who listen to the type of music I’m putting out and releasing. I’m not very experienced when it comes to running my own ads/promotions I typically pay someone else to do that but when you can pay to do it yourself and target who you want and or need to it makes a big difference. You gain traction, start seeing what you need to improve and work on and also who’s listening and downloading your music more than others. So it’s really helpful to learn things that you’re not so good or experienced with. Knowing just a little more will always put you ahead of the game.
