Meet Erica Simmons

We recently connected with Erica Simmons and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
‘Working hard for what you have’ was my mindset started from a young age. I grew up in a loving home with parents who worked average 9-5 jobs. We weren’t rich by any means, we shopped at the thrift store for school clothes every year and were frugal with money spent to eat out. However every year my parents made sure to save enough to take us on amazing vacations. Spain, the Bahama Islands, West Coast towns and endless skiing trips. The ‘adventures’ were more important to me than the materialist things and I knew I had to work hard to have money to do the things that made me happy. I started working as soon as I was legally allowed to get a job. At 15 I started at a sleep-away Girl Scout camp teaching little girls how to ride horses. I then transitioned into working at a restaurant while I was going to school, had a second job at a beer distibutor & graduated with a Graphic Deign degree a few years later. I stayed local so I was able to pay for college as I went & still lived at home. I always used my free time to make another dollar. I didn’t know what I wanted to do ‘when I grew up’ but I knew I had to keep trying my best to be the best version of myself

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Iv been able to take a hobby and turn it into my career as my social media followings have exploded over the last 8 years. Sharing my fishing adventures and traveling on Instagram and YouTube, I’ve grown to almost a combined 1/2 million followers! I specialize in inshore fishing on my own skiff which I’ll bring the GoPro’s and film an entire show myself and I also do all my own editing. Im a one woman show and like to keep everything real & bring viewers with me catching all different species & using different disciplines.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hard-work, being true to yourself and do what you love. Especially in today’s world, there are so many different ways to make money, if you’re not happy in your career, theres always Plan B’s. Just depends on how bad you want it.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Since my Instagram and YouTube channel routinely see large crowds per post & views per video, I offer ad space for businesses I feel add to my current theme of fishing and the ‘outdoors on the water’ lifestyle. These can be 30 sec integrations in the beginning of a video or product posts on social with affiliated links and promo codes. Email is the best way to reach my team at [email protected]
