Meet Diamond V

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diamond V. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diamond below.

Diamond, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is a result of the fact that I wasn’t always able to have the resources I needed/wanted at my fingertips. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t like to wait around for someone to show me the ropes and help me out. Especially as a woman in a field dominated mostly by men, it is always important for me to ensure that I stay at the top of my game and stay one step ahead. As a result of having a strong work ethic, I have been able to take advantage of so many wonderful opportunities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Diamond V. Im a music producer, recording/mixing engineer & mentor from Memphis, TN. I have always loved music from a young age and always knew I would make it a career. Even though music has always been apart of me I really got my start taking pains lessons in the 6th grade and playing the trumpet in the 7th grade. I continue playing both instruments all through high school. By the time I reached high school, I took it more seriously and began doing more research about different music producers and engineers. I would watch music production videos on YouTube for hours wanting to perfect my craft in any way possible. Growing up I had a thick dell laptop, computer speakers, a skinny computer mic, a Casio keyboard, and this recording software called mix craft that I randomly found a free download to online. After high school I knew I wanted to make this a career so I went to college and got my bachelors degree in Recording Technology and recently received my Masters in Music Industry. While in college I created my own music production company called Diamond Music Productions LLC. My company focuses on helping artist build their sound and their brand with music production, artist development, and learning about other revenue streams their music can bring. The most exciting thing about being in the music industry as a producer and engineer is being apart of the process of helping an artist bring their visions to a reality. I absolutely love the behind the scenes of the industry from the studio sessions, to the production, even the events. In the coming weeks I will be releasing my very first producer album called The Blueprint: Made Under Pressure. I produced, engineered and mixed the entire project myself and it will feature all Memphis artist.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Hard work, dedication, and discipline are three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have made the most difference in your journey so far. If you are thinking about entering into the music industry, please don’t expect people to give you the game and help you get opportunities as soon as you get into the industry. Whether or not you are interested in making a career out of being in the industry is up to you, but I strongly recommend you at least learn some of the basic skills involved in the industry. Depending on what part of the industry you’re trying to get into having knowledge of the business will get you further than your talent. Whatever you set out to do, you will go a long way if you are dedicated and disciplined in order to achieve your goals. You should always work hard and believe in yourself, even if no one else believes in you.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents’ most important contribution to my life is the fact that my mother put me in piano lessons when I was a child. The piano lessons that I took at such an early age were the main thing that really helped me operate in my purpose. In my childhood, music was always used as a way to keep me calm, from the time I was in the womb to the present. The fact that my mother believed in my musical talent and continually encouraged me to be the best at whatever I set out to do is something I am so thankful and grateful for.
