Samantha, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
This question stood out to me immediately. Between this question and the resilience and work ethic. How I see it, all three of those are connected. Especially coming from the vibrant yet challenging environment of Chicago. The city’s energy can be both invigorating and tough. Overcoming haters requires a combination of self-awareness, emotional resilience, and strategic responses. The journey of overcoming haters is about strengthening your own character and achieving personal growth. By focusing on my own path and maintaining a positive outlook, I am now in control of what lies ahead (for the most part) and how I react to negative speak or people who don’t believe in who I am or what I do. Good people are drawn to good people and I have been so fortunate enough as I reach this pivotal moment of turning 30, to have a support system that is a dream come true. Something that was so helpful that I worked through in therapy is a mindset Shift: I was/am working on adopting a growth mindset. Seeing challenges, including dealing with haters, as opportunities for personal development and growth with the ability to go to bed at night knowing I did my best, and giving myself grace when days don’t go so well or that negative self talk creeps up. Instead of dwelling on the negativity, focusing on my goals, aspirations, and the positive aspects of your life by dedicating my time to those who support me. the journey of overcoming haters is about strengthening my own character and achieving personal growth. We are just getting started!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience and Adaptability: The entrepreneurial journey is often characterized by challenges, setbacks, and unexpected obstacles. The ability to bounce back from failures, adapt to changing circumstances, and keep moving forward is essential. Resilience allows us to navigate through the ups and downs without losing sight of your goals. By staying adaptable and open to learning from experiences, you’re able to refine your strategies and make necessary adjustments to achieve your objectives.
Effective Communication and Relationship Building:
Building a business involves interacting with various stakeholders, including customers, partners, investors, and employees. Effective communication skills are crucial for conveying your vision, building trust, and forming strong relationships. Your ability to articulate your goals, inspire others, and create a supportive network contributes to the positive atmosphere around your business. Good communication also enables you to gather feedback, understand customer needs, and make informed decisions that will ultimately make you better in the end.
Strategic Planning and Goal Setting:
A goal-oriented mindset thrives on well-defined objectives and a clear path to achieving them. Skills in strategic planning and goal setting enable you to break down your larger vision into actionable steps. By setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals, you create a roadmap that keeps you focused and motivated. Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I get overwhelmed ALL the time. Therapy is my best friend. An unbiased opinion above all helps bring me back to reality. I cannot emphasize how important therapy is for so many reasons. Prioritize and Delegate:
Break down your tasks into a priority list. Identify the most important and time-sensitive tasks that directly contribute to your business’s growth. Delegate tasks that can be handled by others, freeing up your time and mental space to focus on strategic decisions.
Set Realistic Expectations:
Avoid setting overly ambitious goals that might contribute to feeling overwhelmed. Set achievable milestones that align with your resources and timeframe. Celebrate small victories along the way to stay motivated.
Practice Self-Care:
Prioritize self-care to maintain your physical and mental well-being. Engage in activities that recharge you, such as exercise, meditation, hobbies, spending time with loved ones, and getting sufficient sleep – this has been KEY!!!!
Learn to Say No:
Recognize your limitations and avoid taking on more than you can handle. It is okay to decline commitments or opportunities that don’t align with your current priorities.
