Meet Nick Gibbs

We recently connected with Nick Gibbs and have shared our conversation below.

Nick, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I keep persistent over all the haters, and nay-sayers by being a person of understanding. I was taught that hurt people hurt people and usually when someone tries to hurt you or spread hate towards you is not your fault at all in fact it is because they are hurting. I try to understand the person and learn to love the person for who they are and not how they are at the moment. It is easy to be mean to others and it is easy to respond to someone being mean to you with the same energy, but how you react is a reflection of your character. My advice to whoever is reading this…BE KIND ALWAYS BECAUSE LOVE CONQUERS ALL!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Nick Gibbs is the first Grrrd Award winning artist from Wichita, Kansas. His diverse style and stage presence originated from many influences in both rap and rock n’ roll. With a profound sound with extensive wordplay, Nick Gibbs continues to make advances within the music industry along with collaboration with artists outside his hometown. Currently, Nick has consistently performed with artists like: Snoop Dogg, Big Boi, Yukmouth, C-Lim, Caskey, Ra The Rugged Man, King Iso, C-Mob, Jehry Robinson, and other artists in that caliber along with future collaborations with artists mentioned. The latest album “MAG (My Motivation)” was in dedication to his child Micah Aaron Gibbs (MAG) for motivating Nick to exceed expectations and to constantly push himself to provide a better life for his son. Ultimately, this California born artist is always interested in the next opportunity and is humbly grateful for any situation that will progress the process of providing the best for his family. Nick appreciates your consideration and your time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The best three qualities that I feel like pushed my career along with myself personally are to some basic qualities: being yourself, being kind, and being persistent. When you are being yourself you are being original to the highest degree and others gravitate to the authentic especially when your profession entails influencing others. There is only one version of YOU so do not dilute yourself by impersonating others, so embrace your existence. Being kind is another important quality when it comes to progression in my opinion. As a person who works around society consistently it is imperative to learn how to be kind with others authentically. Being kind not only will build your fan base tremendously, but also can lead you to bigger opportunities. Be thankful and appreciate any support big or small because it can be taken away from you at any moment. Last but certainly not least, being persistent is another quality that I feel has pushed my career the furthest. There are times in my career where the shows slow down or I get a writer’s block and things seem “off” in life. At those moments in life it is so important to just keep going. As an artist I believe I am always one song away from the biggest progression in my life or that one show may get me into a better position in my career. With a “can do” mentality and an optimistic mindset will keep the wheels turning on your journey to success. I hope the person reading this finds hope and gets inspiration from my words. My goal in life is to leave this world better than how I found it. All love on my end.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always down to work with artists! I feel like collaborations are the most important part of making music and any other forms of artwork. I have a few collaborations in the background and I am one album away from releasing the features, but let’s just say I will “prove a point” with these upcoming tracks on this future album. I will definitely say that Tech N9ne has always been one of my favorite artists in the game and I hope one day we can work on something in the future. Kansas City is in my backyard so having him on a track will only solidify my progression in music and I will feel a level of fulfillment within myself. Eminem of course would be another artist I aim to potentially work with in the mainstream level of Hip Hop. Eminem’s wordplay and cadence is crazy with such a respectable catalog and accolades. It would be an honor to work with Eminem for sure! E40 would also be another artist I feel like would be an honor to work with. His hustle and grind along with extensive vocabulary I feel like he blesses any track he features on. I also hear cool things about his writing style and composition when it comes to recording and I am interested in seeing that level of artistry in person. Now that I talk about this subject I find myself in a level of appreciation of the artists that paved the way for us younger artists in Hip Hop. I am truly thankful for all the opportunities that I have received and continue to receive in my career. I know a bunch of progression I have been blessed to see comes from the artists before me both locally and internationally.
