Meet Valentina Dominguez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Valentina Dominguez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Valentina, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
Not everyone will support you. There will always be people who want to see you fail. There will always be some type of negativity. Unfortunately, that is the society we live in. We can either let those people bring us down or let those people be our biggest motivators. I’ve always had people try to undermine my decisions for a multitude of reasons, such as, they can do it better, or I’m not going about it the right way, etc… Now, there’s a difference between advice and just simply being a hater. In the aforementioned instances, those same people never offer advice or suggestions, they simply are undermining and hating. People will try to make you feel a certain type of way because you have something they want; success, love, happiness, whatever it may be. The minute you allow someone to affect your decision making, you’ve already lost. I’ve persisted because no matter how much hate I may get, I will still do what I think is best for myself and business. When there’s haters, nay-sayers, etc… it’s sometimes hard to find the motivation to keep going. I struggle with mental health so those type of people can definitely affect me negatively. It’s all about having faith in yourself and looking at the positives. I only have a select few of people that truly support me, but those people are the only ones I need when I’m feeling discouraged. The only person that can stop you, is you. When you have haters that means you’re doing something right. I say thank you to the haters because they push me to prove to myself that whatever I set my mind to I will succeed in. Their negativity has no power over my life and decisions. Haters are just another version of fans.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Mama V Events (M.V.E) is a party entertainment service. The concept of M.V.E came to fruition in July of 2021. Since then, we have had two successful halloween parties, two successful birthday bashes, and club promotion opportunities. M.V.E’s signature event is Demon Time, our annual halloween party. This event was influenced by my love for halloween and my friends who had faith that I could plan a large scale event. M.V.E’s goal is to accomplish events that will have the attendees excited and eager for the next one. I get the most joy when I see people having a fun, carefree time at any of our events. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 10 or 1,000, what matters is providing an environment that whoever does attend will enjoy and speak positively about. M.V.E is always open to any event and hosting opportunities. M.V.E is mostly seen in nightlife/club environments, but will possibly be expanding to other avenues in the near future.

Demon Time will be occurring again in October 2023.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Organization, communication and confidence are three qualities that have helped me the most. Having good organizational skills is important in every day life. When there’s multiple things to do it can easily get difficult to keep track of it all. It’s important to document what needs to be done and by when. Setting deadlines, writing in a planner, etc… has helped me use my time wisely, stay focused, and ensure tasks are completed at a reasonable time. Communication is probably one of the key factors in any business endeavor. Without clear and good communication, there leaves a chance for things to get misconstrued, delayed, or simply not completed. It’s easy to avoid tough conversations, but sometimes those tough and honest conversations are needed to maintain the quality and success of the business. It’s important to be transparent and make sure everyone involved is on the same page. I’ve realized the best way to communicate is in person as it allows any questions, comments, concerns, etc… to flow freely and get answered quickest. It is also helpful to follow up via email with the other party simply summarizing what was discussed in person so that it is not forgotten.
A third quality that is essential to have is confidence. You have to love and have complete faith in what you do for success to occur. When you present any type of idea you have to be confident in your presentation. Knowing exactly what you’re talking about and being able to answer any questions without hesitation is important in receiving respect, and getting offered other opportunities. If it’s a business venture, practice your pitch in the mirror, with a friend, notecards, anything that will help you feel confident in your approach. Confidence comes from trusting yourself and knowing that whatever you set your mind to you can accomplish.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I have a tendency of thinking I can do everything by myself. That is probably one of the easiest ways to become overwhelmed. When you feel overwhelmed it’s easy to give up or procrastinate. I’ve recently had to learn that it’s okay to ask for help. I pride myself in my independence and sometimes I think that asking for help minimizes that independence. I’ve had to acknowledge that’s not the case. Asking for help makes you stronger than you think. It shows that you realize you are struggling and can’t do it on your own. The worse that’ll happen is a person saying no. When you’re overwhelmed it becomes harder to think clearly. Asking someone for help can lead to new ideas and methods. When you have someone assisting you it usually results in the task becoming easier, sometimes more fun, and accomplished quicker. Another strategy is to take breaks. Although, one has to be careful that the break doesn’t last too long, where now weeks have passed and no progress has been made. For me, breaks come in the form of going to dinner with a friend. reading a few chapters of a book, etc… something that keeps me active, but clears my mind of whatever was the main cause in feeling overwhelmed. If I ask for help, sometimes I can delegate certain tasks. where even if I have to take a break at least I know something is still being done. Feeling overwhelmed is a matter of control and you have to accept that you can’t control everything and put trust in others when they are willing to assist.
