We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abba Parrott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abba, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
This is tough! Recently, I’ve really felt like I was struggling with imposter syndrome. I’ve had SO many amazing things happen in the last few months and I really struggled to believe that they were happening, and that they were happening to me and because of me. I found surrounding myself with really great and uplifting people helped me.
They were constantly reminding me to soak in the moment and BE IN THE MOMENT, and were always there to remind that all of this is happening because of me. And that I deserved all the good things. I’m so thankful to have so many people in my life that believe in me and push me to live out my dreams.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Abba and I’m currently the Artistic director of a studio in the metro Atl area. I’m a wife and a mom to the SWEETEST two boys! Recently, I created Movement, The workshop and Movement, The Company!
These are two ventures that I’m so excited about and can’t wait to see what comes!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Not being afraid to be different 2.Being 100 percent myself all the time
3. Finding a team of people to believe in me and help achieve my goals
Being true to yourself! Don’t switch up. Remember your values and what matters to YOU! Even if what you’re doing is different and not what “everyone else” is use to, go for it. Believe in yourself and surround yourself with amazing people that love you.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
With Movement, The Company we are always looking for artist (dancers, singers, painter etc.) to partner with. We are a professional dance company in the Metro Atl area! We would love to partner with anyone!
