We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tatiyanna Edwards a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiyanna, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Work ethic was something that was instilled into me at a young age. Both my parents & my grandfather taught me the importance of work ethic and how it will get me to the places I want to be. Also my taste of things is a little on the expensive side and I knew my parents wouldn’t pay for everything all my life lol. It also just feels better when you’re able to handle what needs to be done on your own.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the CEO of Detroit’s very own hair company The Vault Collection LLC. I specialize in wigs and bundles. I am currently in the last stage of my rebrand! I started my business in 2018 but I wanted to give more so I changed EVERYTHING lol. New name, new goals, basically new everything. I added a Raw hair line and will also be selling hair products. I’m so excited for the drop! My dream goal and plan is to open my own store front but being a business owner you definitely have to take your time and take one step at a time. I’m aiming to have my store front no later than 2025! Look out for The Vault Collection because I’m coming back with a bang!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Honestly determination and my work ethic was and still is very impactful in my journey. Even with the push backs I am determined to keep going. For instance I set my release date for my rebrand March, I really wanted it to be my anniversary date which is March 7th but I wasn’t ready. Instead of letting that defeat me it motivated me more to give my all with this drop. Pushing the date back also allowed my creativity to flow which allows me to offer more. My advice to all is to stick with it no matter what. Your biggest hater when it comes to being a entrepreneur is YOU! That little voice in your head, the disappointment. don’t let it own you. Block out all the naysayers and do you. When I started off I knew literally nothing about being a entrepreneur and running my own business. Take your time, create that business plan, and flourish at your own time and pace. Believe in yourself and you will go far.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would absolutely LOVE to collaborate with Glamaholic Lifestyle. Listen Mia Ray is literally killing the game and Glamaholic is my favorite line. Partnering to create a wig/bundle bags or a scarf and bonnet collection. Even a The Vault x Glamaholic fanny pack! I not only love and live for her collecting, I admire her as a business owner from Detroit as well. Mia girl if you’re reading this you can contact me at vaultcollectionco@gmail.com or 313-633-6582.
