Kendra, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Purpose is by far the most elusive thing that exists on this planet. If I had a dollar for every time someone emailed or DM’d me about finding their purpose, I’d be richer than I’ve ever been. “What’s my purpose? How can I find my purpose? Why won’t God show me what I was made for?” It’s like nobody knows what the heck is going on.

Through a really intense journey, I found my purpose in the comments section of a YouTube video on my own channel (chile, maybe I’ll start posting again one day). I knew I had a pretty good idea about what my purpose was, but I had never been able to easily articulate it. Ultimately, the video about making your purpose your paycheck is how I solidified my own. After posting the video to my channel, I went through my normal routine – sharing to social, adding a post to my community tab, and pinning a comment to the top of the comments section. I wrote:

“Hey hey! Do you know what your God-given purpose is? If so, share it down below! Mine is in the comments.”

Followed by:

“My purpose is to help motivate and inspire others to align themselves with God’s plan for their lives.”

I remember typing it and being shook by that statement. The very thing I had been searching for my entire life just showed up like an unannounced visitor that I needed to host in my home for the rest of my life. I cried for a very long time that day partially because the typing of my own fingers scared me. But I cried mostly because I finally felt whole, mature, and complete. I felt perfected.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur for 12 years. During that time I ran a business consulting firm that I sold, a styling business, and now I’m back in business consulting at Kendra, Scale My Business. We assist creators, million-dollar businesses, and small business owners scale and grow in revenue, brand visibility, and clients served. in less than 7 months, we hit $1M in revenue. Since its inception, we have made over $8M.

At Kendra, Scale My Business, our specialties include organizational leadership, digital media and marketing, brand development, HR and talent acquisition, system automation, team-building, strategic management, and faith-based entrepreneurship.

In this current season, I’ve been heavily involved in my own speaking career. Last year I spoke 12 times for free. This year, I’m booked for 70+ engagements with a revenue projection of $400K. I have had the privilege of traveling and talking about faith, making money, and business growth all over North America this year. My keynote presentations help women specifically find their path and monetize it well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Discipline: I’ve learned to be disciplined in many areas and ways. It all started with fasting and prayer, honestly. Back in 2014, God took me on a journey to learn how to fast and pray in a very real way. I was regularly doing 3-day no food, no water fasts and it taught me how to discipline my body, mind, and soul. That lesson has carried over to other avenues of business and life, allowing me to quickly see success as I submit myself to a disciplined lifestyle.

2. Confidence: Truth be told, confidence will get you into doors and spaces that you wouldn’t be able to get into being timid. This is a trait that comes from within. You can build confidence by practicing self-care, setting achievable goals, and stepping out of your comfort zone. When you challenge yourself and succeed, it gives you a boost that allows you to grow your confidence gradually over time.

3. Communication: Successful people are excellent communicators. When you learn how to listen actively and express yourself clearly and concisely, the world opens up to you. Communication has helped me build relationships, negotiate deals, and resolve conflicts. My key to communication is making sure that I am not only heard and understood but that I fully understand what someone else is saying too without my own perspective skewing their words and expressions.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past 12 months, I have experienced significant growth and improvement in my ability to manage stress and maintain a positive outlook even in the face of adversity. Through a combination of prayer, self-care, and seeking support from my circle, I have developed a strong sense of resilience that has helped me to overcome obstacles and achieve my goals. This is fairly new for me because I used to allow my emotions to rule me when I would be hit with life’s life-ing.

I’ve always been diplomatic in dealing with others, but I haven’t always extended myself that same grace. Learning to stay calm under personal pressure and stay focused on my priorities has not only improved my own well-being, but has also inspired my sphere of influence. I have shared openly and very vocally with my church and friends about my own personal storm and trial I’m in, yet they see me continuing to lean in and trust God while still ascending in every area of my life.
