Meet Monai

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monai. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Monai, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
My learning to stand strong in my confidence. What that means is knowing what you bring to the table. Knowing not only your strengths but also your weaknesses and not being afraid to develop and work on those weaknesses. Making yourself the obvious choice by presenting your best self always.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an upcoming singer from the small town of Inkster, Mi. From a young age, I entered the entertaiment world as a dancer. Where I trained for over 15 years in various styles of dance from Tahitian and Lyrical, to Hip Hop and Jazz Funk. What people don’t know is I also embarked on her musical voyage of artistic discovery at a young age, growing up listening to a variety of musicians and genres that have played an influential role in shaping my signature sound. Artists like Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, and many of the amazing Motown artists we still love today, helped mold my diverse love for music. My goal is to offer something different and unique to my fans by creating and performing original music that I am proud of and connect with. One of my main goals is to bring back the deep feeling of music by telling the stories we all can relate to.

I was named of the Artists of the Week recently and had my song “XoXo” played on my local radio station. It was such a surreal moment to watch a childhoods dream of mine come alive right before my very eyes. It definitely inspired me to do more. I plan on releasing new music soon along with a couple new visuals as well, so be on the lookout!

Aside from music and dance, I am also a model and model coach. I work with BB Modeling Company and their owner Dj to help train models on the industry skills they’ll need to succeed to pursue successful careers. I really love my job because I am able to see their growth first hand. Knowing I played a part in that warms my heart to the core.

My entertainment journey doesn’t just stop there. I’ve had the opportunity to have a few roles in a couple upcoming tv series as well as a movie on tubi entitled Eastside Story: The Musical. Just recently I was able to host my hometown’s annual summer music festival which I performed as an artist in last year. I name all these things to say I want to show people that you dont have to just pick one lane. If you’re multitalent, tap into ALL your talents. See what works for you, it may be one, it may be three. Just go for it, you’ll never know until you try.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being in the entertainment industry you have to develop tough skin quickly. Those no’s cone fast and hard no matter how much you believe in what you’re doing. I saw this amazing clip of Will Smith and he was explaining how you have to believe in yourself a crazy amount before anyone else jumps on board and that is so true. You have to be resilient, dedicated and focused to make any dream work. It takes a lot of time but the journey will be worth it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am most definitely open to collaborating with other artists. It’s actually one of my favorite parts of making music. I love listening to any beat with other artists and hearing the different flows that everyone has and the different melodies. Then when you add some harmonies. I am in love! I am very easy to reach through my socials, mainly instagram. Just hit me up and let me know you seriously want to work. Serious inquiries only.
