Meet Lacey Hennessey

We were lucky to catch up with Lacey Hennessey recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lacey , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
The moment I stopped worrying about what my friends and family thought of my business, I began to thrive. I believed in my skills and had a genuine curiosity to learn and knew I could achieve great things if I let go of insecurities others were projecting on me. If I had listened to even half the people who told me a career in art wouldn’t lead to success, I wouldn’t have the thriving business that I do. If you are lacking confidence, lead with blind confidence. Fake it til you make it! Put your head down, focus on YOUR goals, and you can do big things.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I take ideas and turn them into colorful works of art. Mainly corporate murals these days with more than 150 on my resume in 9 states and counting, but also by way of canvas commissions. I also do a lot of digital design work for vinyl installations, art licensing for businesses, and textile design. My slogan “see if @lacey_does it” has been built from saying yes to people and their ideas, because I love a challenge and usually take on a variety of projects. Word of mouth growth has been huge for me; and my social media has allowed me a place to be transparent with my community, sharing my goals, successes, art tips and other daily stories about building a business.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Become obsessed with achieving your goal – if you can’t find the time to work on your goal/your business, then it’s probably not the right plan for you. You’ll know you are on the right path because you won’t be able to stop thinking about ways to implement and execute. Be curious. Google what you don’t know. Talk to experts. You don’t know it all so ask for help and then practice what you learn.

2. Be transparent. This has been SO important to my path of success. I am honest with my clients and customers about my skills, what I offer and am always upfront on pricing. I want them to be open and honest with me, too. So I lead by example. By being transparent you allow others to feel more comfortable sharing their goals with you which in turn helps save you time and energy trying to discover what they really want and feel. Plus, it brings a really genuine touch to all of your social media channels, when your followers can be part of the ride.

3. Try new things. My business has been built on saying YES to new projects all the time. There was a time when I had never done a mural, and now it is my main source of income. If I hadn’t tried, I never would have found the biggest revenue stream for my career. As a self-taught artist I am living proof that with a little curiosity, effort and practice you can turn a passion into a lucrative profession.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love collaboration and am on the search for two main areas –

1. Art licensing – If you have a product line but need artwork to build your brand, I am your girl. Think t-shirts, mugs, puzzles, posters, rugs and home goods. Everything around us is designed, and I’d love to hear more of your goals and help bring them to market.

2. Textile and wallpaper design – I love to create repeat patterns for fabrics and wallcoverings. I am looking for brands who bring it to market and love to work with interior designers to make one-of-a-kind prints for their high-end clients who maybe want something you can’t find in a store.
