We were lucky to catch up with Stacy Heitman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stacy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I have always been really motivated. When I was in cosmetology school I was learning how to cut hair. I hated it. I thought to myself maybe I should not pursue this. The next few weeks we had color theory. I loved it. When I first started coloring hair I instantly knew I wanted to specialize in hair color. I finished cosmetology school and headed to Beverly Hills to start my assistant program.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been a color specialist working in the hair industry for the last 15 years. The past 9 years I have worked at Sally Hershberger Los Angeles.
In 2021 my husband and I relocated to Colorado. I now work at Isla Salon in Denver, while maintaining my clientele at Sally Hershberger, Los Angeles. Starting over in a brand new city was a challenge, but I have enjoyed meeting new clients and taking time to further improve my craft in a new community.
My precision in foils, balayage, and color corrections set me apart from the mainstream . I remain on the cutting edge by continuing my education, applying new techniques and challenging myself daily. My work is never done and I take great pride in making my clients feel sexy, confident, and current. That’s what keeps me motivated.
My client list includes Robin Wright, Gwen Stefani, Gina Rodriguez, Courtney Love, Dylan Penn and Tiesto to name a few.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
By improving your communication, integrity and creativity it will greatly benefit your chance at your success in this industry.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Starting out In the hair industry I always wanted to learn from the best. Working at a busy hair salon in Beverly Hills, I was fortunate enough to assist three color specialists. I was able to learn techniques from each of them and apply them in my own way.
If I could give a beginner in the industry a single piece of advice, I would tell them to listen and learn from everyone and work on perfecting your craft. Don’t rush moving into the next phase. You will be amazed at how much you will learn if you take it slowly, and that learning will remain with you for a lifetime.
