Meet Sophia Flot-Warner

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sophia Flot-Warner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sophia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I’ve wanted to be an actor since I was a little girl. My first role on stage was playing the Hawaiian in my 1st grade production of “It’s a Small World After All”! My teacher made me a little hula skirt out of green fabric and I loved it so much! I began to pursue acting again as an adult and had the absolute pleasure of doing stage plays in community theater. I thrived on stage! It was (and Is) my Happy Place! At a certain point in my life I became a devoted Christian and I gave up acting because of what I thought of Hollywood at the time. I felt that surely God wouldn’t want me there! Shortly after that, God allowed my church to start a drama ministry! I was ecstatic! I thanked God for allowing me to do the thing I loved so much in a way that would glorify Him! THAT’S when I realized what my purpose is!! Hollywood would be my ministry. I was looking at it all wrong. Hollywood wouldn’t affect my life negatively, I would positively affect the lives of others in and through Hollywood!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actor and screenwriter! I’ve been writing scripts for a while now and my focus is realistic, relatable, diverse faith-based content. My first script is titled, “True North”. It’s a love story that deals with an amazing relationship that is being put through the wringer. This couple’s love is being tested by the newfound religious beliefs of one party in light of the other not wanting anything at all to do with God. It’s a true faith fight. How do you walk that out? This film will show you how and give the audience a very real, very in-your-face look at what the Christian life is. This script has won 4 awards and placed in 6 other festivals. I began writing it as a web series for me to star in, but every time I told someone about it, they asked if I’d thought of making it a feature film. So I did. I’m currently writing 2 TV pilots, one of which has won 2 awards and placed in 5 festivals. The title is “The New Guard”. It’s the story of a woman taking over leadership of her family’s criminal organization. But there is a big twist! And yes, it is lightly faith-based! The 2nd pilot I’m writing with a partner for the first time. We began in January and it’s going very well. This one is a family drama about 5 sisters. Can you imagine all of the drama and shenanigans in this?
My goal is always to cast myself in everything I write. I create characters with myself and my actor friends in mind. I did give up the need to be the lead in everything. LOL
I’ve created a couple of video series. One is called “The What If…? Series”, in which I ask thought provoking questions to get people thinking about what’s really going on in their lives and why. The other is called “One Liner Wednesday”. It’s me performing one liners! Someone has to do those one liners in shows and movies, so I thought I’d show casting directors what I could do with just one line. My next series will be me reading my own poetry in different characters that I create. I published a book of poetry titled “From Flesh to Faith: A Poetic Journey”. It walks through the evolution of my poetry from before I was a Christian to after. It’s available on Amazon. I have a few other e-books there as well.
My next big endeavor will be to launch a faith-based production studio! I’m working on getting all of the business ducks in a row. I’m super excited to see what God is going to do through the studio and the stories He has given me to tell.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Boldness is key in any arena! You have to be bold to ask questions, take action steps, and take risks to build the career you desire. Confidence and knowledge help you build boldness. Study, read, practice and DO! Once you’re comfortable in your talent and feel knowledgable you will be more willing to talk about what you do, seek out opportunities and design your own opportunities. Integrity is essential! You have to build trust with others and prove that you can be trusted with projects, trusted to be honest, trusted to be professional, trusted to be fair. You’re building a reputation everywhere you go. What do you want people to say about you when you’re not around? This is not about popularity. It’s much more important than that. It’s about building a trustworthy brand. In my case, I am my brand.
A heart of love and service is also key to good success. If you think about all of the world’s ills, love and service would solve everything. If we each take it upon ourselves to love and serve others, so many lives will be changed for the better. It’s a choice. I choose to love, but I certainly can’t do it in my own power. I rely on God to show me how and help me make the right choices. If I tried to do that on my own, I’d fail because some folks are hard to love. I’ve begun to get more active in my service. I have joined a couple of groups that serve the community in different ways. One is Color of Change and the other is a Facebook group called Strong Woman with Class. They offer a variety of volunteer and charitable opportunities. There are so may ways to serve. You’ll find what feels right to you.

How would you describe your ideal client?
Star Trek! Star Trek is my ideal client! I’ve wanted to be on Star Trek since I was a little girl! If any of you have connections…

My ideal client is the producer or director of a wholesome, clever, witty TV show or movie. I’m a huge sci-fi geek. I really enjoy comedy and have great comedic timing. My talent for dramatic roles is steeped in a long, eventful life and the eclectic stories I’ve lived. My ideal client will recognize and appreciate those gifts and cast me.
