We recently connected with Amber Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Amber , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I used to think purpose was centered on things I could or should achieve. I was supposed to do well in school, attend and graduate college, get married, have children, have a successful career, be kind and help others etc. Since coming to know the Lord, I’ve realized our purpose is not something we achieve but something we receive. The Lord has given us purpose. Our purpose is to know Him and make Him known. To bring glory to Him in all we do. So while I can feel purpose as a wife or mother or businesswoman, that is not my sole purpose in life. My soul purpose is to love the Lord with all my heart, love others and bring Him glory whatever comes my way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a wife and mother of 4. Our family also has an outdoor lifestyle and apparel brand called Yee Yee Apparel. I help design the women’s clothing line. I host a podcast called Arise with Amber where we talk about faith, family and love, loss, grief and hope. After losing our son in 2019 we started the River Kelly Fund to give back to many other non profits across the globe to bring purpose from our pain and keep our son’s legacy alive. It brings me joy to help others. It’s allowed me to find meaning amidst the messiness of grief.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Christ is the center of it all. Look to Him. There is hope, peace, meaning and purpose in everything we face in this fallen world. Give yourself and others around you grace as you navigate this new road.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Pray. Prayer brings us to the feet of Jesus which is where we need to live our lives. By surrendering our fears or anxieties to Him, the weight is lifted. We aren’t meant to carry it all and we don’t have to.
