We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Helen Fritsch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Helen, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
At age 55, I decided I wanted to get into the best shape of my life. Once I looked into it, I realized what a strict regiment it entailed…. A strict, clean diet,, no sugar, no alcohol, consistent weight lifting 5/6 days a week along with daily cardio.. I was working at a wine and chocolate shop at the time and realized this would interfere with my job so I decided not to pursue it at that time. However, the Universe had other plans for me! Six months later, I walked into the gym to train with a friend of mine who was a competitor and coach. Next thing I knew, my friend and her client were talking me into doing a bodybuilding show in a months time. One month later I stepped on stage in a 35+ Bikini competition and placed third at age 56! I never looked back! As time went on, I continued to place well in shows and my body continued to improve in ways that I never would have imagined! On my 60th birthday, i won a big national bodybuilding show and turned Pro! I knew at that point, that my purpose was to show women over the age of 50, 60, 70 and beyond that age is irrelevant in doing what ever you want to do! I started the Age Is Irrelevant Podcast featuring women over 50 who are motivational, inspirational and transformational. I also started online fitness and nutrition coaching to help get into the best shape of their life!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been a flight attendant for 37 years! I feel extremely fortunate to be able to travel the world and experience different cultures. You have to be a multitasker and flexible in this job because things can drastically change in a moments time. This job has also enabled me to multitask outside of work also. If I am prepping for a bodybuilding show, my workouts have to be flexible and consistent in order for me to be successful on the stage. If I’m doing a podcast interview I may be in Madrid or Rome at work in my hotel room doing the interview. I have online clients all over the country and it brings me great joy to be able to help women over 50 achieve their fitness goals. On my website www.ageisirrelevant.com you’ll find my podcasts, workouts, programs and a wealth of information to inspire you to be the best you can be!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
First and foremost, a strong work ethic! Growing up, my Father was my role model. I always aspired to be like him. A strong man and strict parent who taught me the value of how hard work pays off and that morals and values mold you on who you become. Next up, Positive Mindset! You have to believe in order to achieve! Positive thinking plays an important role in your overall health and well-being. It helps keep you focused on your goals, it aids in stress management and increases physical well being. I perform at my highest vibration when I have a positive mindset! Finally, Perseverance is next. Nothing great comes easy or quickly. You have to persevere through the good times as well as the bad times to achieve your goals, your dreams, your desires and your ambitions.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I was diagnosed with Leukemia nine years ago. Up to this point, I have had no treatments done( Chemo/Radiation) and have taken no medications in conjunction with this cancer! I attribute this to my healthy lifestyle, clean diet, workout regiment and positive mindset!
