Meet Angelic Brown

We were lucky to catch up with Angelic Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Angelic , so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I’ve discovered the importance of stepping back during a demanding workday when it starts to feel overwhelming. Allocating time in your daily schedule to pause, relax, reset, and then resume your tasks can greatly help you gauge your workday’s manageability. Prioritizing self-care, particularly as an entrepreneur, is crucial for your mental health.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’ve spent over 8 years working as a social media manager. In this role, I’ve assisted various brands, businesses, and individuals in boosting their brand recognition, engagement, and interactions across diverse social media platforms.

Beyond my social media management work, I’m involved in content creation with Updown Nightlife and Kin Seltzer. This experience has highlighted the effectiveness of high-quality content and strategic planning from both perspectives.

I’m excited about the upcoming launch of Angel Brown Media in the Fall. My goal is to reshape the perception of African American culture and its leaders in a positive light, while maintaining credibility. Achieving this starts with self-awareness and altering the existing narrative.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three key qualities that have mattered most in my journey are Self-Awareness, Teamwork, and Optimism. Since I joined Updown in 2015, I’ve learned how important these qualities are by taking responsibility, working closely with my team, and staying positive. It’s easier when you love what you do, so my advice is to do what you love.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Joshua I. Lewis, the CEO of Updown Nightlife, is not just my mentor but also my closest friend. Ever since our paths crossed in 2014, Josh has been wholeheartedly committed to helping me achieve my full potential in all my endeavors. He stands out as one of the most selfless individuals I’ve ever known, and he approaches every relationship with intentionality. Our team’s loyalty is a testament to his exceptional leadership and his genuine care for those he supports. With Josh leading the way, we always come out on top, and I am incredibly grateful to be part of this journey.
