We were lucky to catch up with Yilmaris Rivera recently and have shared our conversation below.

Yilmaris, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I am always researching on what is up and coming as in new movies coming out, new album covers, or any new anime that is being released. I am always looking for new ways to keep the flannels being more exciting whether it’s by sewing panels on the back or pockets to spice it up or even doing both front and back designs. I also allow our customers to have the opportunity to send me an image and create there own custom flannel.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Flannel Panels is custom flannels that are either new or up-cycled and we bring them to life by spicing them up with custom panel backs with many different options to choose from. We make panels from Anime, Disney, Marvel, DC, album covers and even new movies. Our product is special because we allow our guest to have the opportunity of expressing themselves through our work and making it exciting for us to hear about all of the compliments they receive after purchasing. We want all our customers to know that we offer custom made work, meaning send us any image you would like as a panel and you can create your own flannel just for you! Our flannels are all one of a kind which makes each one very special and unique.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The advice I would give those who are new small business owners is to be patient and realistic with the expectations. Understanding that it will take time to build and receive the recognition of the brand. Also never give up or become unmotivated if things aren’t as they should be, because every business goes through it’s ups and downs you just have to believe in your product and know it will eventually be all worth it.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Currently we are facing with the issues of keeping up with production and making sure we always have enough product for our events that we attend at comic cons. Our business has been striving and being able to keep up with product has been our main obstacle.
