Meet Jasmine Dominique

We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Dominique recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jasmine, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
1. How do you keep your creativity alive? I stay connected to my inner-child- I have always enjoyed my imagination and its ability to take me beyond the limits that the world can sometimes create. As a child I was very creative, I loved to dance, to sing and to write. My mom supported my creative drive by enrolling me into Arts Magnet schools during my elementary and high school years. My imagination is a tool that I continue to use. I dream big and I believe that anything is possible. My motto is “Live Beyond Limits, because limits are merely illusions”. I think outside of the box, and I surround myself with amazing people who do the same. I play and I do the things made me happy when I was a little girl. I create healthy boundaries that allow me to be messy, wild and untamed. I also know when it is time to be focused, disciplined and consistent. Balance.

2. How do you keep your creativity alive? I give myself the permission to pivot. If I invest time, energy and the patience to learn and to grow into something and it does not work, I move in a different direction. I have always been a fearless risk-taker. As a result, I have learned some lessons the hard way, but amazing doors have opened for me as well. Not being afraid to try something different challenges me to not become comfortable. When we become comfortable, we become stagnant. Creativity cannot blossom in stagnant spaces. I am not afraid to make mistakes or to fail. I give myself grace, I learn the lessons and I move forward.

3. How do I keep creativity alive? I invest in self-care. Doing what is good for me is not something that I earn, it is something that I deserve. My creativity expands when I value my mind, my body and my spirit. Taking care of myself ensures that I am aligned and that my creative channel is open. I work, but I also give myself the time and the space to “just be”. Also, managing my brain health is very important. To fortify it and to maximize its potential I rest, I eat healthy foods, I think empowering thoughts and I am always learning something new! Surrounding myself with incredible people is also a facet of self-care that I enjoy! My tribe is a reflection of who I am and of who I am becoming. I am honored to be surrounded by such insightful, impactful and dynamic people that appreciate my inventiveness.

4. How do you keep the creativity alive? I avoid the nay-sayers and mediocracy I have never been a fan of what is “normal” and “trendy”. I have always danced to the beat of my own drum. My mother, who was a very bright and independent woman, taught me how to avoid the judgment that often comes with being an independent thinker. I think that societal norms are stipulations that are used to control and to categorize people. I have no desire to surrender to anyone’s authority. My creativity thrives, because I am free. I do not care about what people think of me. My creativity is an expression of my existence. I truly believe that those who should connect my expressions, will connect. I stay away from people who attempt to project their fears and regrets onto me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Currently, I am writing my second book “Trust Yourself: Beyond the Illusions”. Lastly, I host a podcast that features amazing guests who share their stories, knowledge, wisdom and resources.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Having Faith- Know that there is a beautiful force inside and outside of you that is always working on your behalf. When life is challenging, remember that everything that occurs in your life is designed to empower you. Every experience and the lessons that follow are connected to your purpose. 2. Be Consistent- Small steps are powerful and with each step that you take you get closer to the goal or to the outcome that you are trying to obtain. Be diligent and be disciplined. You will be very proud of yourself if you do not give up, even in the midst of adversity. Keep going, the pace does not matter.
3. Stay connected to the Power of Love- Even though we are all different and special, we all require that basic human needs be met in order to function properly. Receiving and giving love are at the top of the list. Remember love is a common denominator that will assist you with finding the solution to any problem. When you are building your foundation along your journey, ensure that love is the apart of your base.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with folks! I am looking to collaborate with inspirational artists and wellness specialists who would like to be a featured guest on my podcast. I am also, interested in being a guest on social platforms (podcasts, blogs, live streams, etc.). I am available to facilitate and to participate in empowering wellness seminars, workshops and panels.
