We recently connected with Justin Perkins and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
A big change happened in my life when I put $25,000 into a project. I really wanted to show everyone that I could do it. But I made a big mistake. I let my feelings and not being good at controlling myself get in the way. This mistake led to a big problem – losing everything again. It was really hard and my head hung low, but it helped me become a better person.
I learned a lot from failing. Instead of giving up, I tried to understand what went wrong and how to get better. I wanted to be strong and not give up easily. When I saw that my lack of control caused trouble, I decided to change my ways and do things better.
I realized that I’m in charge of what I do and how things go around me. This means I’m responsible for my choices. I found out that to do well, I need to do what’s needed, not just what I feel like doing. This is really important for success.
Every day, I worked hard to become better and more in control of myself. I learned that being disciplined, or good at controlling myself, takes time to learn. It’s like practicing a skill.
The tough time I went through taught me a big lesson. I was scared of having nothing and really wanted to prove I could do it. I used this lesson to make myself better at controlling my actions and feelings. It helped me become strong and stay focused even when things are hard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Justin Perkins, and I’m from Maryland born and raised. When I was growing up, things weren’t always easy. I didn’t have all the new stuff like some other kids did, and some of them made fun of me for it. My dad was in prison, so he wasn’t with us. But my mom, who helped special needs people before it was popular, taught me a lot.
There’s this person named Mr. John who my mom worked with. He was strong willed and kind of stubborn, but my mom was really patient and caring with him. Seeing her treat him so well taught me a big lesson about being patient and kind to everyone.
Now, I’m focused on helping coaches, consultants, and small businesses do better. I know how hard it is because I’ve been there too. I want to help them not waste money and time. By using smart computer tools, I help them build strong businesses.
I’m always trying to learn and find new ways to help. Even though I don’t have big news right now, I’m always trying to make things better. I want to help business people with what they need to know.
Remember, your past doesn’t control your future. All the things that happen, good or bad, can help you grow. Be kind to others, learn from your experiences, and know that you can make a big difference in the lives of others.
I help streamline customer engagement, automate processes, and enhance overall efficiency in reaching clients and prospects. One of my standout features is its ability to integrate multiple marketing and communication tools into a single platform.
This consolidation helps businesses save time and effort by having everything they need in one place, from managing customer relationships to executing marketing campaigns.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, there were three important things that really made a difference in my journey. The first is determination. When I put $25,000 into a project and faced a big problem, it was my determination that kept me going. Even when things got tough, I didn’t give up.
The second is learning from mistakes. When I messed up and lost everything, I didn’t let it stop me. Instead of feeling down, I learned from it. I figured out what went wrong and how to do better next time.
The third is self-control. I realized that letting my feelings control me led to mistakes. So, I focused on controlling myself and my actions. This helped me stay strong and focused even when things were hard.
For those just starting out, my advice is to stay determined. When things get tough, remember why you started and keep pushing forward. Mistakes are normal, so use them to learn and improve. And most importantly, practice self-control. It’s not always easy, but it’s a skill that can really help you make better choices.
To sum it up, determination, learning from mistakes, and self-control were the keys to my journey. Keep these in mind and don’t be afraid to reach for your goals. Your past doesn’t define your future, and with the right mindset, you can achieve great things.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I’ve come across something that’s truly been a game-changer for me, and I believe it can help others lead happier and less stressful lives. It’s a simple idea that’s had a profound impact: “Everybody has bad things that happen” or you can rephrase that to “Everybody has bad things that happen”. We have the power to choose whether those things are bad or good for us. Let’s consider an example: getting stuck in standstill traffic. Initially, it might be frustrating, but if it becomes a daily routine, it starts feeling normal, and the frustration lessens. By changing our perspective on situations, we can greatly reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed by whatever challenges we’re facing.”
This insight has transformed how I approach life, and I’m excited to share it because it’s made my life better. It’s about finding that mental switch that lets us reinterpret situations and choose a positive outlook. When we adopt this mindset, we become more resilient and better equipped to handle whatever comes our way. It’s a powerful tool that empowers us to navigate life’s ups and downs with greater ease.
