We recently connected with Rachael Mann and have shared our conversation below.
Rachael, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
I believe the self-discipline comes from my makeup. My family works extremely hard. My Mom literally can wake up early in the morning and work all day until night out in the yard as she loves nature. My Dad works extremely hard as well. I often make reference that my family wakes up working. I love to sing, but I also know that if I don’t take care of myself and my voice, it can make it extremely difficult to do what I love and do it to the best of my ability.
I believe when you are aware of this, you want to work as hard as you can to do the best you can and take the proper steps to stay self-disciplined whether this includes eating right, exercising or practicing.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a singer/songwriter. I was born in the State of Alabama. I have lived in Nashville and currently reside in the Atlanta area. I have also done a lot of acting in my life including plays and movies. I love to sing at events and churches, but I also love singing the National Anthem at events. I have been able to sing for the Atlanta Braves and the WNBA Atlanta Dream. I have also sung with Carrie Underwood at the CMT Awards with sang on Michael W. Smith’s “Hymns” cd that has sold in Cracker Barrel stores. I am so honored with each opportunity that has come my way. I love to sing and act. I’m truly thankful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I truly believe that I have continued doing what I’m doing because I love it. It is very hard sometimes in this industry because there are so many no’s you may hear or sometimes you may have doors that you thought were meant for you close in your face. I love doing this so much that I will never give up, even if I hear a no, because behind every no is a yes! I would encourage those who are wanting to follow their dreams to keep moving forward. If there is a no, it’s okay. Keep pressing on towards your dream and the dreams God has placed in you! I am so thankful I never stopped!
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I love reading the Bible. I truly believe reading Scripture has helped me stay grounded but has also helped me grow in my walk with God. In this industry, there can be a lot of temptations. Some opportunities can be great, and some can be not so great. I believe keeping myself grounded in Him helps me walk through and figure out the right opportunities that fit best for me.
