Meet Sigail Currie

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sigail Currie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Sigail, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from the admiration I’ve always had for my mother, growing up in somewhat of a single-parent home. My mother had to be the father for 6 children. She was and still is the backbone of the family, even after losing one child at such a young age. She never quite and she never ceases to amaze me. That was very admirable given what we had growing up. She never gave up no matter what she made sure that we were fed, clothes and went to school. Having to come from that space, it gave me the energy, courage and strength that I need to proceed.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Born on the island of Jamaica. I started modeling internationally at the age of 17. I have graced the catwalk for some of fashion’s biggest houses, such as Yves Saint Laurent, Marchesa, Halston, Alexandre Vauthier, Mariella Burani, Tracey Reece, Todd Lynn, Nicole Miller, Catharine Malandrio, Vivienne Westwood, Elie Tahari, Jenny Packham, Basso and Brooke, Lacoste, Custo Barcelona, Rachel Roy, Nanette Lapore, The Blonds, Laquan Smith, DVF Diane Von Furstenberg, DKNY, and Ralph Rucci, just to name a few. I’ve shot with some of the biggest fashion photographers, such as Nick Knight, Steven Klein, Ron Contarsy, Norman, Jean Roy, and Seth Sabal. I have appeared in magazines like Marie Claire, Italian Vogue, Relapse, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Kilimanjaro and Essence. Some of my most highlighted moments was working with Naomi. Campbell, Kate Moss, Rihanna, John Legend, and Gabrielle Union. My current focus is building a portfolio fit for the film industry as I would love to be an actor. During my travels around the world, I was Inspired by the scent of herbs and spices I had encountered, so I embarked on a journey to create something truly special. This led to the birth of Wax On Vine, a collective of candles and self-care products that encapsulate the allure of erotic fragrance and the power of memories. Each Candle tells a story, crafted by hand, we offer, high-quality, elegant, sustainable, eco-friendly candles that provide a soothing, luxurious ambiance that perfectly complements your lifestyle and home. Let yourself be drawn into the captivating world of Wax On Vine you will find a rich selection of delicate products.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The ability to be patient and listen more. Having a general sense of the history of the places I’ve visited along with my travel companion made my journey more educational and fun. My advice would be that you find an outlet to express your creativity and be open and patient with yourself. Explore your passion.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Whenever I would get overwhelmed. I tend to take a pause and go for a walk. I would meditate or even do yoga, then and only then I can reassess my day by starting with the most time-sensitive project and go from there.
