We recently connected with Rico Coar and have shared our conversation below.
Rico , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My dreams of an incredible life with financial power, health, overall wellness, joy and the desire to make it a current reality in my life and the life of my family friends and clients.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Rico Coar Fernandez I have loved everything about skincare since I was a little kid, I remember being the little guy in my friend group riding bikes with my pasty looking face because I had slathered spf with a mineral base to protect myself from the sun I didn’t care about that pasty look at all I was worried more about protecting my skin from the damaging sun rays. I have been formally educated as register nurse with a bachelors in the science of nursing and I am licensed as an esthetician. I am literally one of the best kind of skincare professional around and it’s my pleasure helping clients relax and improve the look of their skin with safe fun and effective evidenced based interventions and treatments. I am really an easy going guy I consider myself very approachable so this helps me make a safe and welcoming experience for my clients.
What inspired me to start your business?
Ahhh so many things but primarily three huge experiences.
1st visiting a physician office in Wyoming I had used this over the counter skincare product and had a huge adverse reaction to it that affected the skin on my face, in addition to that my thighs had these hyperpigmented spots on the lateral sides on both thighs. So as I was explaining to the provide my concerns essentially he said I looked normal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and offered no help no explained of how to improved the look of my skin on my thighs, and for the face fortunately he did explain that the product was logged in a database, and it was an adverse reaction that occurred with my skin. But I had one more area of concern that I felt uncomfortable to tell him about I felt shame and embarrassed about my concerns, It was my butt I had broken out and had these horrible raised areas of dry rough skin, needless to say the provider was no help and I left that appointment feel embarrassed and out of $175 with no real help or action plan to address my issues.
2nd I went to this amazing spa and got a facial it was going extremely well the good energy was vibing my specialist was kind and engaging, and then I mentioned I was married and that my husband would love the service and the whole dynamic change the specialist was uncomfortable with me being married to a man, and being in the LGBTQ community.
3rd The pandemic of 2020 I was in graduate school studying to become a nurse practitioner and then abruptly my campus was shut down, I finished the semester out online and moved to Florida, there were so many unknows and I actually was worried about my career in the hospital especially because I was a frontline RN working directly with patients affected by the pandemic. So I started to think about what I could do outside of the hospital setting that I could be in control of. While in the ppe I always made this thick barrier to help protect my skin from the irritation of the mask and it help keep my skin moisturized and hydrated. Many of the nurses ended up having irritation, breakouts and redness from the mask and they asked me for advice about what they could do, and before you know it I was giving advice daily when I was at the hospital about skincare, products active ingredients, treatments to get and so on and people also started asking about clearing up skin on other areas of the body not just the face, for example back breaks, and neck discoloration.
And then I had my ahh ha moment let me open a skincare studio, one where all clients are welcome and appreciated and I would use my background in science and evidence based practices to help inform men and clients that are in the LGBTQ+ community and Allies about skincare and beauty treatments to enhance their appearance and diminish dry skin and reduce the look of sun damage and acne breakouts and even the skin tone of clients dealing with hyperpigmentation.
What are my future goals/plans for your business?
I want to offer body sculpting services to help clients get the shape they desire in a holistic way and I am developing natural line of evidenced based skincare products that can help reduce the appearance of sun damage and dryness and effectively hydrate and moisturize the skin. I am also making some improvement to the website floridaboyskincare.com to make it easier to schedule and to buy products online.
And finally I am planning a launch party for the release of my skincare line if you are interested in the business coming please shoot me a message and I can help you get on the guess list, just include your name and email address and I can add you here is my number to text me (Rico) 813 9824267.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who is comfortable in intimate setting that appreciates high quality private skincare experiences and appreciate the value of male grooming, hygiene and wants to improve the look and feel of their skin, the client maybe frustrated with all the overwhelming information out there and want to choose a male professional in the LGBTQ community that can guide them to the appropriate path to make the correction to their skin and help them relax.
