Meet Lianne Torres

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lianne Torres a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lianne, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose through a very traumatic and life-altering experience. At the height of the 2020 pandemic, I found myself in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship with my ex-partner. On the night of March 12, 2021, he tried to kill me. It was in that moment that my purpose was born. I was able to escape from that relationship, by the grace of God and my angels, and have turned my past trauma into my superpower. I started my podcast, Watch Us Thrive, and my 1:1 coaching business to help women heal after leaving toxic and abusive relationships. If I never went through what I did, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. So for that, I’m grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a Personal Development Coach and the Founder & Podcast Host of Watch Us Thrive; a personal development podcast to help you reconnect with your inner magic. My coaching specialty is geared towards helping women heal after leaving toxic & abusive relationships. I started my business after experiencing a life-changing event of domestic violence and almost lost my life to the hands of my abusive ex-boyfriend. Now, I’m on a mission to help others know that your trauma doesn’t have to define you… it’s just a small piece of your journey, and there is a beautiful life to live after experiencing abuse.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most impactful part of my solopreneur journey is my past lived experience. Being someone who was in a toxic and abusive relationship, I know what it’s like to feel lost, confused and even broken. Being able to share my story and what has come from one of the darkest moments of my life allows me to relate to those who may find themselves in similar situations, but may not have the ability or strength to speak up and talk about what they’re going through.

There are so many of us who are suffering in silence and I think it’s important for me as a survivor of domestic violence to candidly share my story with others, so they can feel less alone in what they’re going through. I’ve been there and I know exactly what that feeling feels like. That would be my advice for anyone who is starting their journey, whether it’s their self-discovery journey or becoming an entrepreneur… remember WHY you started and be honest with the audience you’re speaking to. Authenticity attracts the people you’re looking to serve. I stand on being super transparent with my audience and that has helped me grow and find my community.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is the old Lianne from 2020. As I previously stated, I was in an abusive relationship at the height of the pandemic and lost myself in the process. After I physically escaped from that relationship, I began my healing journey to deal with the trauma I experienced not only in that relationship, but in my life prior to that. Now as a domestic violence survivor and advocate, I’m here to help women on their own healing journey and work side-by-side with my clients towards a path to rebuild a loving bond & relationship with the person we tend to neglect the most… the relationship with have with ourselves.
