Meet Mia Grissom

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mia Grissom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Mia , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Growing up, my mom was an amazing interior decorator. She could design a living room beautifully! Of course I was with her while she shopped for home decor and design a room.

While working, she would give me tips on how to make a space look good and simply eye-catching. Over the years, I developed her creative eye.

I don’t design spaces, but I am a creative beauty product photographer. I use the skills she taught me how how to make things look good, eye-catching, and clean.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a beauty product photographer. I’ve been obsessed with makeup since I was 12 years old. I’ve been a beauty-editor and YouTuber.

Now, I get to create, play, and take cool photos of makeup products for some of your favorite beauty brands!

It’s so much fun because I get to be creative, use props to make products really stand out, and it’s just like magic!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
It was very impactful when I learned my style of learning and how I receive information. Soon, as I learned my style and gave myself patience everything took off.

Always be a student and keep learning skills in your industry. I still take courses, read books, and find ways to develop my skills/techniques.

Networking was huge and life changing. Go to events and conferences in your Industry (even if you have to book a flight there, do it.) Talking to the right person, even if it’s a 15 min conversation can change your entire life for the better.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Getting a coach/mindset coach who’s in your industry and they are at the level where you want to be.

It’s good to get a coach in your industry because they’ve been there/done that and knows exactly how you feel and can guide you on the right path to keep growing.

Where do you get your work ethic from?
