Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Barbara Mosher. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Barbara, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It took me years and years to really truly define my purpose. Goals and day-to-day living was what I thought I identified as my purpose. It filled that space and time but there was always a longing, a calling that was an ache that would not go away. It wasn’t until I scratched that itch that I began to realize that that ache was a sign of what I was to put my attention on. Funny how life directs you to make those turns and forks in the road, while helping you determine the aspects of being in alignment. How did I find that purpose? Acknowledging what I always knew in my heart, that feeling I got when I didn’t create, which was a empty feeling inside. Once I embraced my art, the warm feeling of bliss took over.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Joseph Campbell quote: ‘Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you,…
I have found that my “bliss” is creativity. Art in its many forms fills this “bliss’ for me.
As a visual artist I truly find that abstract art the most exciting and stimulating for me. Having a traditional
illustration and graphic history, abstract allows for me to release color, play with shape and
discover something to think about.
I recently felt the urge to embark on an abstract landscape
series and have found the bridge between reality and abstract. I like to follow these urges (or bliss) to see what is there.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I am a sponge for knowledge. I research anything that comes my way that I don’t know about. I have read many books, attended seminars and tried to absorb information anyway I could. The
best teacher is always experience and the failures that come with trying. The three areas I
would emphasize would be to learn many different techniques from mentors, schools, online
resources (classes and Youtube), and books/magazines. And practice, practice, practice. Also
work on your sales skills, as we all are salespersons whether we want to admit it or not. (Don’t
forget that elevator pitch) Then put your blinders on and focus, be determined, tenacious and
have a laser pointed in the direction you are seeking. Adjust as necessary and
keep moving forward, and don’t forget to smile with confidence.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am an artist, writer, podcaster, entrepreneur, and educator. Collaboration in all of these areas are welcome and entertained.
– I would like to find collaboration in teaching via classes and seminars how creativity is necessary in the world and how to use it for beauty enhancement, problem solving, communication and interpersonal relationships. Using the written word, painting, drawing, music and visual arts can exponentially create an expansion in how to deal with the real world.
– I’m looking for interior designers, hospital/commercial art curators for collaboration and installation of art
-I also would like to collaborate with podcasters and am looking for interesting people
to interview.
– I am selective, but seeking established galleries for a potential solo show.
