We were lucky to catch up with JoJon Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.
JoJon, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience is innate. I believe we all have some form of resilience. God equipped us with everything that we needed when he created us and whatever we lack, or believe we lack we get from him so we all have it And if someone believes they don’t have the ability to be resilient it’s probably because they don’t believe they have it, but I have faith in them they have it they’ve become resilient in other situations because when you think of resilience, you think a certain situations, but if you really think about it you’ve overcome pretty much everything you ever faced, you had to because look you’re still here, you’re still alive, you faced challenges. Resilience is something we’re born with.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am truly honored to share the remarkable journey of JoJon Global and the mission it represents. As someone who has personally experienced the challenges of human trafficking and domestic violence, my purpose has become clear: to empower survivors and foster “SURVIVOR-preneurs” who can rewrite their own narratives.
Through JoJon Global, I’ve paved a way for survivors to break free from the cycle of violence and find their footing in the trucking and logistics industry. This journey holds a special place in my heart, as it’s about transforming lives against all odds.
At the heart of JoJon Global is my dispatching service, a platform that equips survivors with the skills to achieve self-sufficiency and financial independence within the expansive transportation and logistics sector. This field offers multiple avenues for growth, enabling survivors to become dispatchers, freight brokers, and even truck drivers.
My engagement on social media platforms serves as a sort of reality show, providing a glimpse into the journey of not just myself, but also fellow truck drivers. The recognition from prestigious platforms such as CNN, National Trucking Magazine, and various podcasts, along with my role as a brand ambassador for S.H.E. Trucking—an organization dedicated to empowering women in the industry—further underscores the importance of our work.
However, beyond professional achievements lies a personal journey of unwavering resilience. The trucking industry became my lifeline, offering me the chance to thrive and inspire others. My book, “From Trafficked to Trucking,” serves as an invitation to sponsors, partners, and mentors to join the fight against abuse and exploitation. It’s a call for collective action to create a world where such atrocities cease to exist.
This book is more than a mere narrative; it’s a compelling call for change. It encapsulates my strength, courage, and determination, and I believe it will resonate with readers seeking to make a positive impact. As a precursor to my forthcoming memoir, this book delves even deeper into my life’s journey, highlighting how I overcame seemingly insurmountable odds.
So, if you’re seeking a story of hope, resilience, and the power to drive change, I wholeheartedly invite you to read “From Trafficked to Trucking: A Survivor’s Journey to Drive Change.” Together, we can reshape narratives, inspire growth, and create a world where survivors not only conquer adversity but also emerge as leaders and advocates for transformative change.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, there are three qualities that stand out as profoundly impactful: resilience, adaptability, and mentorship. These qualities have been my guiding lights, propelling me forward in the face of adversity and empowering me to create JoJon Global as a force for transformation.
Resilience has been the bedrock of my journey. In the face of challenges and setbacks, it’s the unwavering determination to persevere that has allowed me to overcome the odds. My advice to those starting their journey is to cultivate resilience by developing a strong sense of self-belief. Surround yourself with a support system that uplifts you and never lose sight of your goals, even when the path gets tough.
Adaptability has been crucial in navigating the unpredictable terrain of entrepreneurship. The ability to pivot, innovate, and embrace change has enabled me to seize opportunities and evolve JoJon Global into what it is today. For those embarking on their own path, I recommend staying open to learning and being willing to pivot when necessary. Embrace change as a chance to grow and expand your horizons.
Mentorship has played a pivotal role in my journey. Connecting with individuals who have walked similar paths has provided invaluable guidance and insights. My advice is to actively seek out mentors who align with your goals and values. Their wisdom and experience can provide shortcuts to success, helping you avoid common pitfalls and accelerate your growth.
To those at the beginning of their journey, I encourage you to cultivate resilience, embrace adaptability, and seek out mentors who can light the way. Remember, the journey might be challenging, but each step forward brings you closer to your goals. Stay focused, stay determined, and always believe in the power of your own potential.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am actively seeking collaboration with individuals and organizations who share a passion for creating positive change in the lives of survivors. If you’re reading this and want to be part of our transformative mission, there are several ways we can work together.
First and foremost, I’m looking to connect with individuals who can contribute to the formation of our non-profit. If you have experience in the non-profit sector or a deep understanding of survivor empowerment, your insights would be invaluable in shaping the foundation of our organization.
Additionally, I’m eager to collaborate with experts who can assist in securing government grants and funding. If you possess knowledge in grant writing, navigating the bureaucratic landscape, or have connections within government agencies, your support could help us secure the resources needed to expand our impact.
For those involved at the state and federal level, particularly in the judicial system, I’m seeking collaborations that can result in referrals of survivors to our program instead of incarceration. Partnerships with courts, judges, and legal professionals who believe in rehabilitation and empowerment are crucial in breaking the cycle of abuse.
Investors and mentors are also key collaborators in propelling our mission forward. If you’re passionate about empowering survivors and see the potential in our work, your investment or mentorship could help us reach new heights in transforming lives.
Co-working spaces or office spaces would provide us with a dedicated environment to work and offer support to survivors and allies. If you have access to such spaces or can contribute to creating a nurturing workspace, your involvement would be greatly appreciated.
