We were lucky to catch up with Jackie Burrow recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism is deeply rooted in several aspects of my life, which have continually fueled and shaped my perspective. These aspects include:
1. Love: Love, both in terms of the love I have for the people in my life and the love I feel for the world around me, is a significant source of my optimism. Love has the remarkable power to uplift, inspire, and motivate me to see the beauty and potential in every situation.
2. Faith: Faith plays a crucial role in grounding my optimism. Whether it’s faith in a higher power, in the inherent goodness of humanity, or in the unfolding of a greater plan, having faith provides a sense of assurance that challenges and setbacks are temporary and that brighter days are ahead.
3. Self-Reflection: I believe that self-awareness is key to maintaining optimism. Regularly asking myself meaningful questions helps me understand my thoughts, feelings, and motivations. This process of self-reflection allows me to identify areas for growth and helps me approach life’s challenges with a sense of curiosity rather than apprehension.
4. Allowing Life to Nourish Me: Embracing life as a journey of continuous growth and learning is essential to my optimism. By adopting an attitude of openness and receptivity, I am able to learn from both successes and failures, finding value and lessons in every experience. This mindset allows life to continually nourish my spirit and outlook.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, there are three distinct qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have significantly influenced my path. I believe these elements played a pivotal role in shaping my trajectory and fostering growth. For those at the beginning of their journey, I’d like to offer insights on how they can develop and enhance these qualities to achieve their goals.
1. Adaptability: One of the most crucial skills I’ve cultivated is adaptability. The ability to pivot, adjust, and innovate is essential in an ever-evolving world. Embrace change as an opportunity for growth rather than a challenge. Learn to harness your current resources and circumstances to elevate your endeavors. Embracing new tools, technologies, and approaches can catapult your progress. My advice is to stay curious, stay open-minded, and be willing to step out of your comfort zone to explore uncharted territories.
2. Learning Initiative: Taking the initiative to continually learn is another key skill that has propelled me forward. When you actively seek out opportunities for learning and self-improvement, you empower yourself with the knowledge and tools needed to excel. Be proactive in upgrading your skills and honing your craft. In a rapidly changing landscape, your commitment to ongoing education sets you apart. Seek out online courses, workshops, conferences, and relevant literature. The investment you make in yourself will pay dividends in your journey’s progression.
3. Mentorship and Networking: Building genuine connections and seeking mentorship can be transformative. Reach out to individuals whose work you admire and build authentic relationships. Mentorship provides invaluable guidance, insights, and a fresh perspective. These relationships are often built on mutual respect and shared goals. Cultivate a network of peers who inspire you, challenge you, and share your enthusiasm for growth. Be willing to both give and receive support within your professional community.
For those starting out, my advice is to embrace these pillars:
– Be Adaptable: View challenges as opportunities to evolve. Use your current resources creatively to enhance your journey.
– Pursue Learning: Commit to continuous learning. Take the initiative to develop your skills and stay up-to-date with industry trends.
– Cultivate Relationships: Form authentic connections with mentors and peers. Seek guidance and share experiences within a supportive community.
Remember that the journey is a combination of growth, challenges, and achievements. By nurturing these qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge, you’ll be better equipped to navigate the path ahead and achieve your aspirations.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Being a single mom has presented me with a unique set of responsibilities and opportunities for growth. Juggling my own aspirations alongside the ambitions of my 11- and 16-year-old children has been both rewarding and demanding. The key to managing this intricate balance lies in practicing what I preach—living a holistic and balanced life while instilling the same principles in my children.
Every day is a test of adaptability and time management. To handle my own commitments and guide my children’s journeys, I’ve had to become a master of organization and prioritization. My schedule is a carefully orchestrated dance that incorporates work, personal pursuits, and dedicated time for my kids. While there are moments of challenge, I’ve come to view these trials as opportunities for growth and transformation.
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is that challenges are catalysts for our evolution. They push us to think creatively, adapt swiftly, and draw upon our inner strength. By using these challenges as stepping stones for growth, we can uncover gifts and abundance we might not have otherwise discovered. This philosophy has allowed me to cultivate resilience, patience, and a deeper connection with my children.
In guiding my kids’ ambitions, I’ve found that practicing what I preach is crucial. As I pursue my goals with determination and dedication, I model the importance of perseverance and a balanced approach to life. This has translated into inspiring my children to tackle their own dreams with vigor and discipline.
