We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Poscente. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Alex, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I’ve always possessed a deep sense of self-worth and confidence. Having an Olympian as a father and a serial entrepreneur as a mother, high voltage environments were comfortable for me. Since I was young I would set goals and start things, initiating the 0-1 phase with ease and energy, and would see them through. I think my confidence comes from the fact that I have achieved a lot of the things I set out to accomplish.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a serial founder who lives in Los Angeles, California. Growing up, my passions have always rested at the intersection of art, technology, and impact. At 10 I started a summer camp for kids, at 16 a city-wide art collection company, at 19 an augmented reality platform, and at 22 a remote consultancy for top students and graduates called Ivy Insights. I scaled her most recent startup internationally and is currently fielding an acquisition for it. Alex attended Wharton at The University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated with a B.S. in Economics and a minor in Creative Writing. She most recently founded a company called Bits Crypto and raised $1.5M pre-seed. Most recently, I was added to the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for Los Angeles’s top leaders.
I think my main story to tell is one of empowerment and self belief, especially as it relates to female founders. The world is ours for the taking; and I love helping people see that.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Confidence, passion, and curiosity.
Without these three things there would be no momentum forward. You have to deeply believe in something, be able to communicate that belief, and poke around until you find the opportunities to make it impactful.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They would never give us hand-outs. Every summer we’d live in a new place for a month, and they would expect us to start an entrepreneurial endeavor to fund our expenses. So I’d be running around with my siblings, at like 14 years old, applying to work in random towns’ restaurants. Another example is when we turned 10, they sat us down and said, “Okay, whatever you save between now and the time you’re 16, we’ll double it.” And it worked. They really bred a founder-spirit. All of my siblings are go-getters because of it.
