We recently connected with Ana Peralta Chong and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ana with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
To this day, I watch a man work seven days a week and twelve hours a day to provide a safe haven for his family. A few months ago I watched that same man pay off his house for his kids and decide to build a pool for him and his wife to retire.
In the midst of a vast cultural adjustment in 2001, I saw that man assimilate in order to start building a kingdom of financial assets for a family with no foundation. He washed cars and rented a room for a family of four, a year later moved them into a small apartment in Phoenix and from that moment in time dedicated his life to ensure the family never felt they had less or more. My work ethic was shocked into my core at a young age by my father, to who this day still manages to inspire me on a day to day basis.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Currently I am creative directing for different clients who trust me with their brand identity and visual appeal. This job didn’t seem real or like something that I could ever have the opportunity of doing but I am so happy it has come to me the way that it has.
The digital market moves quickly, and adapting to it has been so exciting. As I work with these clients I’m also directing music videos, commercials, and writing my narrative pieces. There are so many stories to tell and I am grateful my job is based around visual storytelling. It’s all I’ve ever wanted!!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Communication is the most important skill I’ve learned throughout my career. We as humans have managed to create different ways to interpret messages and the way it’s pieced together and presented is a whole art form of itself.
Another is knowing how to treat people, and understanding that making someone feel good about what they do is harmless, ,fun, free, and has the one of the greatest longterm returns.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I sound like a broken record, but Alejandro González Iñárritu. He’s a director who has shaped me into who I am today and reminds me it’s possible. I’d love to collaborate with him on a script, shadow him, or be an extra in one of his films. It’s weird because I dream about it pretty often.
His films feel personal and he finds unique ways to build narrative around them.
